Product reviews...
I first got my Magic Bullet when they first came out as the hottest new kitchen craze that you just had to have. Having had so many different milkshake makers, blenders and mixes in the past, I was quite excited by the prospect of this handy little machine that would supposedly do everything I could want and more. Not only does the Magic Bullet come with the bullet itself but it also came complete with a recipe book, 2 different sized blending containers and a set of 4 travel mugs, each with a different coloured ring around the top to help you keep track of which cup you are drinking from when using these with a group of people, quite a good idea I thought!
I was most excited to try out my Magic Bullet after seeing all of the amazing looking TV commercials for this product, which made it look like the uses for the bullet were limitless, however when it came to actually putting some of these ideas into action I was left sadly disappointed. I soon found out that this machine was far from ideal for blending hard fruits when making smoothies, which meant apples, pineapple and pears were a no go, I also quickly realised that unless you added some kind of liquid or yoghurt to assist with blending the machine would play up and really struggle to blend the ingredients at all, very misleading from what you would see on the adverts!
Trying to blend products such as cheese was probably the biggest let down of the product as this created a super icky mess, and within seconds the cheese was stuck together and the machine refused to blend any longer. On the plus side the Magic Bullet did work really well for blending up liquids for example in a milkshake without any problem, i'll give it that.
While I can see the potential for this product, it isn't quite what I was expecting, nor was after when I brought it for, I still use it from time to time for making milkshakes or for blending together liquids but that's about it. If you are after a machine that does this plus a whole lot more I suggest you check out the other options available on the market, so that you are not left feeling disappointed.
I was giving one of these as a gift from a family member. When I first got it, I was eager to use, I found that it does not puree/chop as well as I thought it would; Bananas, Apples and Pineapple are examples of this. Although it does wonders with onions and garlic, which is the only reason I use this now. I never did try the recipes in the book that came with it, and as a male, never read the instructions, so this could be the reason why it may not work correctly, but I highly doubt it.
Small, compact and somewhat useful, but have found that; this device has too many accessories, to many to store in fact, so I would suggest keeping the box. After a fair amount of uses, the plastics, like other plastic has cracked in some places. The blades are stainless steel, but I found that it started to rust. Like most small appliances, this was a novelty for the 1st month or so, and is now only used on rare occasions.
My partner bought this some years ago, and I would say I am happy with what it claims on their ads. Although we don't use this other than making smoothies and shakes as I have kitchen gadgets for them too.
I find it so easy to use, no hassle in cleaning, but the only thing I noticed is when I do bananas, it doesn't completely pureed them all, there are bigger bits left, but it doesn't bother me at all as I only do smoothies for the two of us. So when my baby was ready to take pureed food I didn't use this at all.
If ever this gadget had it, I won't be convinced to buy another one again, I would probably look for other gadget that is more likely to do many things and with a good brand that stand through the years.
The magic bullet isn't so magic in our house! I have owned my bullet for coming on 4 years and purchased it to make baby food. Yes it is amazing when making baby food - apart from when the inside rubber seal comes off and tangles in the blade or in my worst case scenario the blade ate one of the seals, rendering that attachment useless.
I have tried to use it for all the other functions it advertises, but its a whole lot more hassle than its worth. It mushes not grates and purees not chops..... in my opinion it is only good to puree baby food!
I wouldn't buy this product again as other appliances i own do the same jobs - only better!!
Received a magic bullet as a gift and was so excited. Had seen the infomercials on TV several times in the past and was always impressed by what they could do. But like most things you see on TV this just did not cut the mustard for me. It was really disappointing to be honest.
I imagined I would be able to create all these extremely wonderful, dips, smoothies, sauces and meals in next to no time. But it just didn't work like that for me. Where I thought I could use the magic bullet to make fresh and healthy smoothies, I in fact just made a mess. There was nothing smooth about my smoothies Whether I just did not chop and blend enough, I don't know, but I was far from successful in blending everything in to a smooth and lump free smoothie.
If you had more time to make use of the product, it would possibly be ok. I personally find it time consuming, and fiddly and not as amazing as the TV made it out to be. If you do want a magic bullet, be sure to forget everything you read or watched about it before you try it, or you may just be disappointed.
I just can't be without my Magic Bullet, despite what I have read from other people's experiences.
I find this to be a great addition to our kitchen, especially when you are on a tight budget and can't justify buying stuff pre-made.
It's great in Summer when you want a nice ice cold smoothie to enjoy in the hot Summer weather. I would use whatever fruit we had lying around, with a splash of orange juice and ice ... the kids loved it, as did the hubby and I. It became a regular treat for us in Summer.
Baby food was another great reason to have this in the kitchen. We would make meals as normal for everyone else, but placed a little bit aside to be pureed for bubs (you could blend it as little or as much as you wanted to get the right consistency for all those different stages). We never bought baby food! It was great for sweet and savoury dishes alike.
But the #1 thing we use the Magic Bullet for all the time is for grinding coffee beans to have fresh coffee at our finger tips! Makes for great coffees! And if you are anything like my hubby and I, we drink A LOT of coffee, it goes further than the boring instant coffee you just pick up off the shelf and is much cheaper in the long run.
I do however have 1 gripe ... It works too well sometimes. I can never chop up onions in the Magic Bullet like they do in the ads, it just turns to mush.
So would I recommend the Magic Bullet to others? Simply YES! I have converted a few people already. You just need to know how to use it properly.
I was really excited about this one, I thought it was going to make life so much easier, and when I first got it, I was really impressed as I used it to make baby food, and it did a good job, but when I started to try other things like using ice and making whipped cream etc...
I was really disappointed as it had to work alot harder to get the desired result, nothing like they showed you on tv, I felt the ad was kind of misleading to what the product actually could do and handle.
After having this product for about 15 months it died on me, and I would not get another one nor would I recommend this to anyone.
I purchased a magic bullet because I was so impressed by the advertisement on TV but sadly I was so disappointed in it.
When it first arrived I was pretty impressed by all the gadgets and bits in pieces it came with, and thought it was definitely worth the money, however it seems possibly some of the bits n pieces it came with a really pointless.
I also found it really didn't work as effective as I expected it to. It was actually quite disappointing. It definitely didn't do some of the things that were claimed on TV anyway.
I tried a few of the recipes and after struggling with the bullet found that simple elbow grease and traditional methods were much simpler and quicker for chopping and mixing and mincing etc.
If you have time to waste then by all means its a good product. If you are expecting something quick, efficient and quiet then definitely worth it.
i have had my one of these for nearly 3 years now. bought it through their website after reading the first review. i havent had any problems with the rubber/plastic cog thingie on the bottom of the blades because i make sure it is well meshed with the cog on the motor first and push firmly to activate. by doing that there is no way for the motor to chew away at the cog on the blade piece. like all things if you treat it well and be smart about using it then it will survive a lot longer. i have watched other people use theirs (i bought two as presents for friends) and seen how they dont bother to make sure the two gears are well seated before pushing down and activating the motor. i cringe when i hear that gear-stripping noise of the motor spinning up and grinding away at the blades cog. 5 minutes of patient effort soon has them doing it right and the cogs are still working 2 years later! funny how people blame the tools.
I had the same thing happen to me that mandaz79 did. All was going well but then after a few weeks one of the blades wouldn't work so I then changed to the other one. Once again after a few weeks that was not working and the same thing had happened to both and that was the black hard rubber bit which acts like a cog to turn the chopper had worn away. So the whole thing was rendered useless and thrown away.
Again, i brought this product because im an impulse buyer. At first i loved it!!! i used it mostly for onions, which was very effective. I then ventured into omlettes. Great easy omlettes. So far i loved this product. Then i thought Cheese. this got the big thumbs down. It did not grate it at all. I found after the 2nd or third time, the cutting blades had come loose. After about 3 months i found that not only had the blades become so loose, but the rubber bits at the bottom of the cutting attachment had worn down so much that i could no longer use that blade. I ended up throwing the whole product away after it sat in the cupboard unused. It was an expensive onion chopper!!!
Oh the years I have suffered from Onion Tears, the number of times I have chopped hot chillis and gotten some on my fingers, then stupidly rubbed my eyes, the number of bowls I have used just to make a dip or spread... if only the magic bullet unit had been around when I first started flatting. -sigh-
Let's start with the features... the foremost, of course, is it's blending ability. Grab a blending cup, stuff your ingredients in, screw on the appropriate blade unit and whizz whizz whizz... all done! Onion chopped finer than even the most deft-handed cook... a pate smoother than any I have made before... thickshakes blended faster than I have ever done it previously, and no sore wrists afterwards... oh, it made it all so easy!
Thickshakes can be made using the blender attachment, if you want a large volume of the same flavour, or you can use the individual cups with their coloured thread-covers if you wish to make a single serving of each flavour, as I did for my son. He had Willy Wonka Chocolate Caramel, while I stuck with a standard chocolate ultra-thickshake. I like them so thick you have to hammer the straw in, or simply eat it with a spoon. -drool-
I made a chicken dip after that... using freshly cooked chicken that just slid off the bone, half an onion, 2 fresh green chilli's, and a half jar of tartare sauce, all blended into a fine smooth consistency... it was about the same thickness as a thickshake, but trust me, you wouldn't want to jam a straw into this mix. It went perfectly with salsa-flavoured corn chips, carrot and celery sticks, and 'snax' crackers. By the time it was half-way gone, I had already whipped up a batch of spicy Avocado dip, with similar ingredients, basically replacing the chicken with avocado, and adding a good squeeze of lemon juice. Both dips took less than a minute to prepare. Total.
Cleaning up is a breeze... simply put a tiny squirt of washing liquid into the cup, 3/4 fill with hot water, slap on the blades again and give it a 10 second whizz... rinse with hot water and whizz again for 10 seconds, then slap them on the drying rack. If it got any easier, it would wash itself!
There are a couple of things to note for anyone who is a first-time user of such equipment... the order you put the ingredients in the cup will affect the results you get. If you want a well-blended mix, put your soft ingredients in first, with the harder stuff in last, closest to the blades. If you don't, you can end up with the blade whipping the soft stuff to a puree, leaving the hard stuff glued to the sides and base of the cup, unchopped.
Secondly, you should buy 2 other things from the nearest Adman shop when you buy your Magic Bullet... firstly, buy some extra mixing cups if you can. The one large and one small, they simply won't be enough. because they double as storage containers, you'll use them, and then be unable to make full use of your blender... it'll be out of bullets. Also, try to buy some extra, small'ish resealable containers, to hold all the goodies you are going to be making. I saw a container and storage rack system on sale at my local Adman shop for around $40, which gave you quite a few containers and lids, in a great little rotating storage rack.
Overall, if you like to cook, or host parties, or just want to get into something a bit more adventurous than pizza and takeaways, this is what you have been looking for... and it will do everything you could want, and a bit more. It will surprise even the most jaded kitchen warrior, like me.
