Little yoghis make it easy for parents to give kids a healthy, dairy-free option for their lunch-boxes. They come in fully recyclable pouches (through the TerraCycle programme).

This product contains real strawberries and apple juice, and there is no added refined sugar - the sweetness comes from the fruit itself. Each pouch contains 75ml.

Miss 7 and Miss 9 had had the Vanilla Little Yoghi pouches from Raglan Yoghurt a couple of days earlier and knew that there were strawberry ones in the fridge too. I decided to let them have one each as an after dinner treat in the car on the way to Brownies. I knew that the convenient pouches meant no mess in the car. I wouldn't usually allow them to have yoghurt in the car, even at their age it is a recipe for disaster.

They both loved the strawberry yoghurt and had no idea that it was dairy-free and had no refined sugar. It was obviously sweet enough with the sugar from the fruits. I don't think they would have touched it if they had known. They are keen for me to get some more but would like a bigger size next time as they are not babies. I had to agree, 75mls is not a lot of yogurt even if it is thicker than regular yogurt.

I have friends that have dairy intolerances, or their children do, and they swear by coconut yoghurt. I will be telling them about the Little Yoghis and how much my children loved them. There are more flavours that we haven't tried yet but I'm confident the girls will enjoy them just as much.

The packaging for the product is so adorable, colourful with cute little strawberries and smiley faces on the packaging, it stands out, and would definitely appeal to children. I found it a little bit of an odd choice to have the strawberry variety to have a pink/light red colour while the vanilla variety came in baby blue. Almost as if there was some gender differentiation, as boys will generally go for blues while the girls will generally pick the pinks and reds.

The yoghurt has quite a thick almost grainy texture to it. This combined with the characteristics of the foil pack means the packet will stick together if you try to just purely suck the yoghurt out. You need to keep pushing the yoghurt up from the bottom. It's one of those things that you may need to explain to a child as they may assume its empty and throw it away when it's still half full.

The yoghurt has a light pink colour to it, so the strawberries are very finely pureed giving a consistent flavour throughout the product; not like other yoghurt brands that use chunks of fruit that have wildly different flavour profile depending on how many chunks of fruit you get per mouthful.

75ml is actually a fair amount for a meal. As a fully grown overweight male, I felt full after having one pouch which was a very satisfying feeling. It's a product that can survive the day in the lunchbox, and provide a filling meal without being full of sugar, as well as it being free of nuts, dairy, soy, gluten, preservatives, and GMOs. The price, unfortunately, means this isn't likely to be an everyday food, but it would certainly be an "often" food.

Miss Five was delighted to see that I had brought some yoghurt for her and her brother to try. She was first to choose, so she decided to sample the strawberry without knowing what the flavour was: she was attracted by the packet colour. She loved the packaging, finding the nozzle was easy to open and just the right size for her. Having taken her first mouthful, she exclaimed with great excitement "Fruit!" Then, after thinking about it, she added "Ooh! Strawberry! Yum!"

It was interesting that she was able to recognise the flavour so readily. Some flavoured products, even when made with real fruit, are not as easy to identify. Strawberry is actually one of her favourite flavours, so it was a good choice for her to have made. The label would have made the contents clear for an older child, but the word "strawberry" is a bit of a challenge for a five-year-old to read, and the fruit images were quite small.

I thought it would be a great product for her to take to school, but the children are not allowed to take any food and drink products that are not in reusable packaging, so even though the packet is 100% recyclable it is not allowed. However, we could see lots of other uses for it. As a quick, nourishing snack for taking on a car journey or to have after swimming, it is ideal. Her mother always has a chilly bin in the car so that would make transporting the yoghurt safe and would keep it cold.

She found the texture a little unusual until she got used to it. Her mother agreed - she tasted it too and said it was different from the same brand shipped in glass jars. However, neither actually disliked it. They just thought it was unexpected when they first tasted it. We all appreciated that there was no extra sugar; in fact it was not necessary as the natural sweetness of the fruit (apple and strawberry) was quite enough to satisfy.

Pricewise it is not cheap so is probably something that we would not buy every day. However, the coconut base makes it a special treat which even children who are not on a vegan, gluten-free or dairy-free diet can enjoy because it is really tasty. There is also the assurance that the children are eating a quality product which is nutritious and is not going to destroy all their milk teeth! There are so many "empty" snacks around these days that it is good to see healthy choices available.

Miss 4 absolutely loves squeezy yoghurts, and much prefers these over yoghurts that come in pottles, and although these are often more expensive I will grab her 1 or 2 at the weekly grocery shop so that I have them on hand in times of need such as when we are in a hurry and she is feeling hungry. Miss 4's skin often gets big flare ups of eczema which is caused by too much dairy which means that yoghurt pouches are often out of the picture so to see that Raglan Yoghurt has produced a range of Little Yoghi's is perfect and just what we need in our house, being fans of the jars of raglan coconut yoghurt meant we couldn't wait to try these out!

When I arrived home with my review good's Miss 4 was delighted to see I had these to review, and of course began begging to eat one right there and then but as it was her bedtime she was told she needed to wait until breakfast! Breakfast came and there was no forgetting that I had these Little Yoghi's in the fridge, Miss 4 was happy she was able to choose which flavour she wanted to try and of course due to the pink packaging and the cute little strawberry images on the front the strawberry flavour was the winner. I asked Miss 4 to see if she could open the package herself and she could the twist top was easy enough to do, which is great to know as Miss 4 starts school next year and these would be perfect for her lunchbox!

With 2 squeezy yoghurts of strawberry variety to review it meant Miss 4 and I could have one each and I must say we both loved the flavour! The texture of the yoghurt was extremely smooth and creamy and it had a lovely coconut taste to it, however this did n't take over from the flavour of the strawberry which was lovely and strong, Miss 4 commented that it tasted just like a strawberry smoothie tastes, but was curious as to why the yoghurt itself was the colour pink when the tub of strawberry and acai yoghurt we had in the fridge was infact pink... good question I guess?

It's great to see that another New Zealand company is really taking on board all of the allergies that are out there these day and looking for ways to create delicious products that those with allergies can enjoy, with these being dairy, gluten, nut and soy free it means they can be enjoyed by many, and being packed with probiotics and the fact they are refined sugar free means they are actually good for you. A great alternative to dairy based yoghurt and something I certainly will be buying again for lunchboxes and days when I need something quick and mess free for Miss 4 to enjoy! They are a bit more expensive than what i'd usually pay for a squeezy yoghurt but being allergy free justifies this.
