The Worldwide Phenomenon Returns......

Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson return as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades Darker, the second chapter based on the worldwide bestselling Fifty Shades phenomenon.

When a wounded Christian tries to entice a cautious Anastasia back into his life, she demands a new arrangement before she will give him another chance. As the two begin to build trust and find stability, shadowy figures from Christian's past start to circle the couple. Jack Hyde (Eric Johnson) and Elena Lincoln (Kim Basinger) join the cast, determined to destroy the couple's hopes for a future together.

This time there are no rules.

I have to admit I have only read two of the books in their entirety and about three chapters of the third book and that was a mission in itself. I found them totally boring, repetitive and a chore to read. I seriously do not understand the hype around it at all. But, as I like to keep up with the play I had to watch the movies even if they do make me shudder.

I have to say, even though I totally disagree with the casting of this movie I found Jamie Dornan's acting to be more convincing this time and I actually could see him as Christian Grey. The first movie was terrible and I wanted to poke my eyes out every time he opened his mouth but this time he upped his game. Maybe he put on weight for the role but I feel he bulked up and looked more solid. This time I hated Dakota Johnson and found her annoying (again completely opposite from the first movie). I know there was outcry when Rita Ora was cast as Grey's sister but I really liked her and would say the casting was spot on, probably the only casting I actually agreed with.

With this DVD you had the choice of watching Unmasked Edition or Theatrical Version we opted for the Unmasked Edition so I am unsure what extras we got. Maybe it was the drawn out sex scenes, even though there was no sexual chemistry between them at all. The boat scene which should of been amazing just looked like two strangers behind the wheel trying to be friends, there was just no spark there. The movie as a whole did not really hold my attention and on a couple of occasions we ended up talking about our day just because the movie was dragging on.

The soundtrack would have to be about the only good thing about the movie and I found myself humming away to most of the songs. The script was a hard one as it is just like the book, although I found Anastastia to have more of a back bone in this movie and I am pretty sure she was wimpy in the book. My husband was not shy about voicing his opinion and basically just kept saying how terrible it was. A little under half way thru I looked over and he had his head back in the tablet and did not look up again. He said it was not so much the acting but more what the characters said or portrayed - I pointed out to him that is exactly what I had been saying about the books the whole time.

Would I watch this again: no. Is it better than the first movie: yes. Would I recommend it: only if you enjoyed the book or want to see what all the hype is about. Will I be watching the third segment: absolutely. Will I ever finish the third book - very doubtful. If Ian Somerhalder had played Christian would I have enjoyed it: short answer no as it is still terribly written but I would of preferred Ian.
