The Cat Wants Cuddles product reviews

Kevin doesn't want a pat. He doesn't want a tickle. And he definitely does NOT want a cuddle.

There's absolutely no way this hilarious cat is going to change his mind about that.

Or will he?

A delightful story for pre-schoolers which older children will enjoy as well!

My 5 year old very much loves cat and he very much loves to cuddle cats!! Our cat is just like the cat in this book and isn't very fond of cuddles most of the time anyway. When I first saw this book it immediately made me smile as it made me think of my son and our cat and their relationship. Of course animals have their own way of showing affection and it is not always when you want it!! I could tell straight away the cat did not want cuddles and I asked my 5 year old if he thought the cat wanted cuddles.

We loved the way the book was written with the cat talking and the human in the story also talking to Kevin the cat. It starts out with the human calling Kevin (the cat) and Kevin making it pretty clear he did not want a pat, he did not want a tickle he did not want cuddles!! The illustrations and the language the cat used were very entertaining and we couldn't help but giggle. The illustrations really captured the mannerisms of a real cat you could definitely picture the cat opening one eye in an uninterested fashion or standing with fur on end.

I found it a fun book to read doing different voices for Kevin the cat and the human in the story I must admit I straight away took a snooty quite royal voice for Kevin the car as lets face it cats generally act like they are royalty and it just felt like it suited my 5 year old found this hillarious. Loved the appearance of dog as it is just the same in our house the dog is up for a cuddle whenever and wherever but the cat will only cuddle on her terms and in her own time.

Was very sweet that the cat did come and have cuddles in the end and realised that it was actually really nice well for a short time anyway. We decided that this is exactly like our cat who will come and cuddle when she wants but she will always leave when she wants to definitely a great book for a cat lover like my little guy and he really treasures this book.

Animals are just like children - they have a mind of their own and are not afraid to let people know their preferences! This picture book presents a wonderful tale about animals and the way they often manipulate their owners into doing exactly what they want. And in this particular story, the animal is a cat - and as we know, they are the stroppiest animal of all, inherently selfish but so beautiful you just can't help loving them. Exactly like kids!

Miss Seven Months is just starting to take an interest in books, so her mother is always looking out for suitable material - something with bright pictures and not too many words. Little ones enjoy looking at graphics with lots of primary colours, and they quickly learn to make out the subject of each picture. Words are almost superfluous at times, yet as the child matures he or she learns to align the text to the picture. This of course only enhances the enjoyment.

Miss Seven Months and her mother read the book together, looking at each picture and reading some (but not all) of the words. That part will come as the book is read and re-read over the next months. Children often take a liking to a particular book and will demand to see it day after day; hopefully that will be the case with this one. Certainly the first reactions from both mother and daughter were highly positive.

Her favourite picture was the one depicting the cat making a firm statement about where he stands on being cuddled. This is a two-page spread showing a very annoyed animal with all his fur standing on end and the declaration "I DON'T WANT CUDDLES!". The picture is large, energetic, and very much to the point. It is followed a few pages later by a second picture which shows Kevin after he has rethought his position - with his fur now sleek and his face relaxed into a happy grin as he accepts what he really wanted all the time.

I love the way the book starts with the cat having his name called - once at normal volume, then once shouted! I also like the first image of the cat with one eye shut. I know lots of cats who react just like that, but I also know a few toddlers who become selectively deaf when they choose not to come. There are several more humorous comments (and graphics) which will appeal to the adult reading to the child - for me this would be a selling point as it is fun to enjoy things together but on different levels.
