Rich and smoky, this relish will take your regular meat patty to a new level with its blend of spices and smoke extract. It's great on its own or blended with mayo to make a delicious BBQ aioli dip, extra delicious paired with hand cut fries.

Wow what can I say about this relish except for its our new family favourite. I am not normally a huge relish fan but was excited to get to try this Anathoth Farm relish as we love our Anathoth Jam. An added bonus was that this relish was gluten free which means our 4 year old daughter who has coeliac's can eat it to. She was very excited when she asked if it had gluten and I told her it had no gluten so she could try it.

She immediately raced to the cupboard and grabbed out some rice crackers and asked if she could try it on those. I decided that was perfect and we quickly made some afternoon tea by spreading this on crackers and adding some cheese. I found the flavour to be nice and tangy maybe even a wee bit spicy but I love things with a hit of spice and flavour. It went really well with the cheese and this automatically made me think that maybe this would be nice on a toastie with some meat and cheese.

I think that this relish, even though it says its BBQ burger relish, would be quite versatile and would taste good on a number of things from burgers, to pizzas to crackers and toasties it would be something that could be used in a range of different meals.

I think the price of $4.99 is a great price for some a homemade tasting New Zealand product. I would definitely buy it again.

I loved this product. I have used it on home made pizza and burgers and wraps and it is amazing in all of the dishes. I have plans to use it in so much more like sandwiches that I can make individually since it was not such a hit with my fussy kids. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened it by the cute photo on the keep fresh seal. I really like how it is made right here in New Zealand and that the information is printed at a good size that is easy to read. The smell is just gorgeous, I had to have a good smell as I opened it and the aroma just invites your taste buds to a party.

I let my kids have a small taste as o don't like wasting food and this relish is far too tasty to waste if they don't like it. One said it was too spicy and his brother told me that it ok but not to put any on his burger. My daughter wasn't home but declined the offer of trying some the next meal I used this relish for.

I will definitely be buying this again as it is so versatile and yummy and brings back memories of my childhood. Now I want to try some of the other flavours in this range.

I was excited to try this Anathoth Farm BBQ Burger Relish, as I have tried many other products from Anathoth and have always been happy with their products. When I opened the pot I got a yummy whiff of Smokey bbq flavours. I loved the seal on the lid, a picture of where it is made, made right here beneath the four peaks mountains with the picture of mountain, the scenery is amazing and take you to a special place and you know what is inside this pot will be as amazing as the picture.

I love the flavours and texture of the bbq burger relish. So much goodness packed into one pot. I decided to have this with a bacon lettuce tomato and avocado open sandwich with aioli. Wow it was super tasty and made the sandwich complete. I love the way the relish went with all the ingredients and worked well together especially the bacon. My son really loved his one as well and commented on the amazing flavours and said he loved the bbq taste it provided.

I really love the packaging and also I love how the ingredients are no added preservatives, colours or flavours and also being gluten free. This by far is the best bbq relish I feel is on the market and knowing it is good for you and tasty is a bonus. I really like the price as well, it is affordable and you get plenty of servings from the pot.

I decided what else I would like this with so tried it with luncheon on toast and it was amazing. I really like to eat luncheon on toast with tomato sauce and so does my son. Using this bbq sauce just felt like I made something so simple into a really yummy new snack idea my son and I will enjoy. I love how the flavours go with such a variety of different foods. Yummy it has my vote and will be buying more when this runs out.

Going purely by the label alone we made burgers and it wasn't till about the forth bite that my daughter asked 'why can it only be used in burgers' and she is dead right this really could be used in anything, crackers and cheese, sandwiches, rolls the world is your oyster.

We love our burgers they are a quick easy meal and best of all the girls can construct there own without any interference by us. So after preparing all the fillings: cheese, lettuce, onion rings, bacon, tomato, beetroot and meat pattie I decided to not include red onions as figured the radish would cover that base. For some reason I assumed it was only going to be onions, but, it has a lot included in this small little pot: tomatoes, capsicum, dates, raisins and onions which you can actually see. As soon as you take the lid off you are welcomed by big doses of fillings which is fantastic none of that watery down relish.

Not only can you visually see the ingredients but you are also hit with the sweetest Barbecue smell. The aroma actually reminds me of burgers before even taking my first bite. I spread only a little on the base of my bun, and in all honesty that is all you need. The taste is remarkably strong and even my husband commented you could taste this relish even with all the other ingredients. It is a stunning mixture of flavours and the smoky tastes come through beautifully.

This is a fantastic addition to any meal and like I said before you are not limited to just burgers. It would be great as a dipping sauce for seafood or while eating a bacon sandwich while sitting on the deck enjoying the sunny weather. Just a hint don't try lifting the lid and follow the instructions and twist to open. Not sure how long this relish is going to last with our family but it is definitely a keeper.

I was excited to review the Anathoth Farm BBQ burger relish, we eat a lot of homemade burgers in our household as it's my sons favourite meal so I knew this would get a lot of good use. I actually used this on our steaks we had for a BBQ and man it was so good. It's really thick and full of vegetables including onion, capsicum and dates and raisins which adds a sweet taste to it. I liked that it was more like a homemade relish all thick and with chunky pieces of vegetables rather than the standard runny sauces we usually have.

The 390gm is very a generous size meaning you can use it numerous times. I think this would taste great on a variety of dishes including hot dogs, leftover meat sandwiches and any BBQ you have over the summer months. The generous size makes it very good value for money at only $4.99 a pot. I also love that it's gluten free with no added preservatives, colours or flavours. I would be keen to try the other flavours you can get and see they do a caramelised onion which I can only imagine would taste just as good.

I would definitely recommend the Anathoth Farm range they are awesome value for money, awesome tasting and kiwi made what's better than that?

I love teh Anathoth farm jams and am a regular purchase of their products but I hadn't tried this BBQ Burger relish so when I saw it wa sgluten free I thought it would be agreat way to spice up our mOnday night burgers.

I love that this product is all natural with no added flavours or preservatives or colours. Its as good as something my mum would make with the added extra of the smoke extract. I'm not sure what smoke extract actually is but it definitely adds just the right amount of smokey taste to this relish. The relish itself actually tasted a lot nicer than I thought it would. The relish had some nice decent bits of red capsicum and the texture was perfect with it being runny but chunky at the same time. Adding this relish is easy as the pottles - although plastic and non recyclable (in Hamilton) - are easy to open with a twist lid (and the containers are brilliant to reuse in the pantry.) The opening is wide so its easy to get your spoon in and out without any mess over the sides.

The kids all really enjoyed having this on their burgers as well thanks to my slow but steady introduction of onion with a lot of our meals. This definitely took our burgers up to the next level in terms of tastiness and we are slowly getting through our pot.

I think for the price this is good value for money and I would definitely buy this again as unlike some condiments in my fridge this one is actually getting eaten. I can definitely recommend this if you want a yummy relish for burgers or as an addition to steak or even stirred through a stir fry or a rice dish. It actually can be used in lots of different meals just to give some extra flavour and liven up what might other wise be a bit of a bland meal. A great addition to the kitchen.

I am a fan of BBQ sauces and a BBQ Burger Relish sounded like it would go down a treat in our house, especially with my husband and me. This is the second of two Anathoth Farm relishes that I have received to review. I was very impressed by the first one and therefore I expected that I would experience the same level of quality from this one also. I was right. The kids weren't keen on it; however, that is not surprising as they tend to be quite simple with their tastes for sauce. This means that a fuller flavoured sauce, like this one, is a perfect option in our house as we know the kids are unlikely to be keen anyway unless it is simple tomato sauce.

The first smell of the relish gave a strong smoky aroma to me. It made me think of the type of sauce I would expect on BBQ spare ribs. In fact, I think it would go very nicely spread over a platter of BBQ ribs. The flavour is strong and has a good level of spice, without being too spicy. The chunks in the relish make it similar to something that would be made in a home kitchen. The chunks are recognisable as things such as tomato and onion.

Over the couple of weeks I have had this relish, we have enjoyed it in a number of ways. It has been great spread over a pizza base, with meat, on ciabatta rolls toasted with with a bit of cheese on the top and in burgers.

The ingredients are simple and involve real food items. It is great to see Anathoth Farms providing the market with quality, flavoursome relishes such as this. I love the fact that there are no preservatives, colours or flavours. The only item that I am unsure about is 'smoke extract' and I am guessing it is the one part that I couldn't replicate easily in my own kitchen. People who are unable to consume gluten will like the fact that it is also gluten free.

We really enjoyed the relish and it is likely to appear in our pantry again. The only reason that I say 'likely' rather than 'definitely' is that we absolutely LOVED the Caramelised Onion Relish from the same range and found it to be such a fabulous relish that we may not have the need to stock both of the relishes in our house!

I was most excited to see this relish come up for review as we hadn't had burgers at home for ages. I went right out and bought some Angus patties, buns and salad ingredients when I got offered this to try. On opening the tub I was really pleased to see how chunky the mixture was. You could see big chunks of tomato and it felt like a quality product for that reason.

I added the relish on top of the lettuce and the fresh tomato, but I think I could have even forgone the fresh tomato. I delivered dinner to my family and waited for reactions. For the most part the relish was a bit spicy for everyone, and the smokiness was a bit overwhelming. We thought that maybe I had been too heavy handed.

So the next time we used this relish I did a small amount in place of salsa for a Mexican meal. I had mince with some spices and melted cheese on nachos. I added sour cream and this relish to the top. This got more positive responses from my family, though I wondered if it was because the creaminess of the sour cream helped to cut the spice heat and smoke a little as well.

I also used this relish on American style hot dogs. Again the spice level and the smoky taste wasn't a crowd pleaser. Now, it wasn't all bad. The meals were still eaten and edible. It's just that the flavour wasn't quite what we were hoping for. That said, if you are the sort of person you likes big smoky flavours in your food then this might be just the thing. I still think we'll get some use out of it especially as we have more friends over in the warmer weather.

I like to try different pickles and relishes, both when I am eating at home and when I am eating with friends. But having people to share a meal means I am motivated to explore more interesting ways to prepare and present the food and I get a better range of reactions. When I opened the jar of BBQ burger relish, I was intrigued to find that the manufacturers had used an innovative and very attractive inner seal in place of the usual plastic or plain foil. The seal featured a full colour photograph of Four Peaks which is, of course, in Geraldine - where the product is made. This immediately caught my attention as I am very familiar with this part of the country.

We served the relish with our main meal and also with the cheese and crackers served afterwards. The meat (pork chops) had been cooked on a barbeque and the courgettes and oven chips seared on the same hot plate - the smoky flavour was a rare combination when accompanied by the relish. To complete the meal we had fresh tomatoes and steamed leeks, both plain enough to allow the relish and barbeque flavours to come through. Five of us shared this meal, and everyone judged the combination to be just right. One of my friends commented on the richness of the tomato sauce, calling it the "adult version of tomato sauce" but Miss Nine, the one child present, said she liked it too and it was nothing like the brightly coloured sauce she is prone to use to smother most of her dinners.

After the main meal, we had plain crackers and Barrys Bay Taste 3 cheese to finish off. I put some relish into a small bowl so that people could combine it with the cheese or not, whatever they preferred. This was sensible as the cheeses (part of a three variety sampler mix) were all very different. With the Cumin Spice and Live Chive cheese flavours the relish was great. It enhanced the cheese flavour and made it very palatable. It did not go quite so well with the Wood Smoke variety which surprised me as it had been so good with the barbequed meat. The flavours vied for attention and neither won! But nonetheless it was different and certainly worth trying.

This is one of those relishes that can be kept in the cupboard as I can see a variety of other uses for it. Although it has a tang to it, it is not actually a hot relish. Capsicum and ginger are both listed among the ingredients but they do not take over; rather, they sit in the background and add interest to what is basically a tomato and onion mix. Miss Nine does not like spicy food (or so she maintains) but she enjoyed the relish with both the main meal and the cheese afterwards. And children are usually pretty vocal about what they like (or dislike), so that classes it as a sure winner. Another new product to try again!

Tangy, a little spicy, fruity, sweet, chunky... all the things that set apart a good relish from those that are so blended into pulp that you can't tell if you're supposed to put it on your food, or use it as toothpaste. The only slight negative - and it's a very personal one so may not apply to you, dear reader - is that I found the smoky flavour a tad stronger than I like, so that after the second tacoritto (burritto-style snack made with the smaller soft taco tortilla) I wasn't enjoying it as much. I think it was the Molasses - an ingredient I have had trouble with in the past.

Despite my own flavour preferences, I also offered some of this in a wrap to a few co-workers who gave varying reactions, ranging from a delighted "...it's so fruity and warm-tasting..." to a luke-warm "...it's not bad, but I think I would have to have the right dish for it..." so it's clear that this is going to be a relish that you may need to experiment with a bit to see if it's going to suit you. I did find that I enjoyed it more when I had lots of various flavours in the wrap, and enjoyed it less as I reduced the number of competing flavours. I was also able to enjoy it more when I used it with beef, rather than with chicken, which is a bit of a shame because chicken burgers are a favourite of mine.

Overall, while not my favourite relish, it was quite tolerable and even enjoyable in certain dishes. It may also prove to be useful when the seasons roll around and Winter returns, as I think it would go really well in a few slow-cooker stews and casseroles that I enjoy making in the colder months. For Summer weather, I think this mixed with sour cream and/or cream cheese would make an interesting and flavoursome dip for vegetable snacks and maybe some kumara crisps.

My family only ever buys Anathoth Farm jams and so I was pretty excited when I saw that they had released several relishes to their range of foods, and after knowing just how delicious their jams are I knew that I needed to try the BBQ Burger Relish, especially as the name contained the words of 3 things I love BBQ's, burger's and relish, I was pretty sure I couldn't go wrong with this and that it would be a hit with the family!

I have to say I loved the container which the relish comes in, being plastic means that if tiny little hands get a hold of it when 'helping' to prepare meals and snacks and drop it it isn't going to smash if it fell on our tiles! The labeling is simple yet effective and I really love the use of the white lettering against the colouring of the relish itself which can be seen through the container, it's always good to see the exact product which you are buying before you purchase something for the first time! The lid itself was easy to open, and the fact that you have to 'twist to open' is clearly labeled on the top of the lid so there is no not seeing this!

As this is a burger relish the first way in which I tried the relish out was infact on burgers, I cooked up some beef patties and bacon, chopped up some lettuce, tomatoes and cucumber and stacked these all on to a Brioche bun which was then topped off with some cheese, mayonnaise and of course a very generous smothering of the BBQ Burger Relish. The burger itself looked and tasted amazing and the relish is what really made it, it added such a rich and smoky flavour, with the taste being a mix between your classic BBQ and tomato sauces, but much more chunky and flavourful with herbs, spices and lovely big chunks of vegetables and fruit to it, you could taste and see the chunks of onion, capsicums, raisins and dates. It was absolutely delicious and my partners family who was with us for dinner was most impressed by the amazing relish in their burgers telling me that "it tastes like something you would get on a gourmet burger at a restaurant".

Our container of the BBQ Burger Relish is still going strong and I love how versatile it is, as well as the burgers I have also used it on chicken wraps, as a dipping sauce for sausages and also chips, I have also added a few spoonfuls of this to nacho mince and spaghetti bolognaise which in both of these it has really made the meal far tastier and really given it the much needed flavour it needed, this stuff is seriously amazing and can liven up any meal with just a few spoonfuls.

This has been an instant hit with all of my family we all just love it, no longer does my partner have boring old tomato relish on his sandwiches, it's now all about the BBQ Burger Relish. Once we have finished off our review sample this is most definitely going on our shopping list, thank you Anathoth Farm for a great tasting product!
