Miss 3 loves nothing more than playing doctors, I will often find her in her bedroom with her soft toys and babies lined up on her bed getting 'check ups' while she checks each one using her stethoscope. When I saw 'Dylan the Doctor' up for review I knew she would love up so was happy to see that we were one of the lucky ones who were lucky enough to get the chance to review the book.
The first thing that I noticed on the front on the cover was a little ladybug in the bottom corner which says "join in with the story". Reading the book to Miss 3 for the first time I saw that the little ladybug appeared on each of the pages, and on each page he had a little comment such as "What's that funny noise?" these were great little conversation starters for Miss 3 to add her own opinion on what was going on in the story. Miss 3 absolutely loved the story, especially looking at the page where she could see the contents of Doctor Dylan's doctor's kit, she also loved the funny names of Doctor Dylan's patients diagnoses such as "Floppy-Wobble Fever", and said they were funny like what DOc McStuffins uses on her tv show.
My daycare children and fellow staff members were also quite big fans of this story they loved seeing how Doctor Dylan cared for his friends when they were unwell, and were relieved to see that when Doctor Dylan became unwell that his friends were more than happy to return the favour. They loved joining in with the story and saying "Nee-naw, nee-naw, nee-naw!". The staff loved that this book portrayed the importance of helping and caring for one another as this is something that we are always encouraging within our playground.
The illustrations in the book are very cute and look like they may have been done with pastels or crayons. I love that the characters all seem so happy and positive even though they may have been sick or hurt, it shows that as long as you are with friends and people who care about you that you will be okay, this is something I feel is really important to teach children, to always take care of each other. In the back of the book there is a picture of each of the main characters in the book accompanied by a little paragraph which tells you a little bit about who they are, Miss 3 loved learning about each and everyone of them and now often talks about what she knows about them as we read the story together.
This is a lovely book which would make a neat gift for any budding little doctors and one which I would buy as a gift, I see that there is another book coming out soon about Dylan's adventures 'Dylan the Shopkeeper' so I will be keeping an eye out for this so that I can read about his latest adventures with Miss 3.
