Product reviews...
I have recently tried colouring as a way of relaxing and much to my surprise it was even recommend by my counselor so when I noticed that this was available to review I thought I had absolutely nothing to lose by giving it a go.
I loved the cover, nice and sparkly but I wasn't as happy when paging through the book I noticed that some of the pages have background pre-coloured as I prefer being able to choose what I want to do, from leaving it white to using crayons to colour a large area to getting creative with liquid highlighter and a ruler and my imagination. The pictures are varied from animals to abstract designs and almost anything in between.
I asked my kids opinions on the book and although all 3 thought the pictures look like a lot of fun to do none wanted to give it a go for various reasons. My daughter just said she wants her own book and not for mum to be able to see her colouring as she finds it difficult to keep in the lines, my youngest said he wants super hero and "boy" themes and my other son said he prefers to have pens and blank paper to draw his own pictures, he backs that claim up by spending hours drawing and designing his artwork. All 3 said that they think mum would be a good person to give this book a go.
I have used pencils which did a good job and gel pens and found nothing bleed through the page, I was a bit hesitant to try highlighters or markers as the page felt quite a lot thinner than other books I have and the markers bleed through those pages but eventually did try highlighter and no bleeding ink. I never tried the markers as I don't want to ruin a picture if the ink does bleed through as the pictures are printed on both sides of the page, I think if the pages weren't printed double sided I would have given it a go.
I personally like the book as it is heaps cheaper than paying for therapy but others might find that it doesn't offer intricate designs that would take days to complete but is a bit too detailed for a lot of younger artists.
