Micekings #1: Attack of the Dragons product reviews

Who is Geronimo Stiltonord? He is a mouseking - the Geronimo Stilton of the ancient far north! He lives with his brawny and brave clan in the village of Mouseborg. From sailing frozen waters to facing fiery dragons, every day is an adventure for the micekings. In Attack of the Dragons the micekings are in a panic. The village's best cook is ill, and until she recovers there's no delicious stew to eat. Geronimo Stiltonord departs immediately in search of a cure for her. But on the way, he ends up snout-to-snout with terrifying dragons! Can he make it back with his fur intact?

My 8 year old daughter has recently discovered Geronimo Stilton books and can't wait to sit down and read a book by herself. The Micekings "Attack of the Dragons" is a spin off from the Geronimo Stilton books and feature Geronimo Stiltonord, a Mouseking from the ancient far north. In this book he must find a cure for the village cook so she can continue to cook the villagers her delicious stew. However, to find the cure, he must first deal with some terrifying dragons......

As with the other Geronimo Stilton books, the format is the same with regards to certain words being emphasized by different colours, fonts and size which makes it easy and entertaining for the younger readers. The first pages give a brief introduction to the various Stiltonord family members and the evil dragons. A separate and more thorough description of the characters/ dragons feature throughout the book which allow the reader a brief respite from the story, which at 115 pages is a good length. The Chapters are pretty short and broken up with some great pictures which help the story along. The book feature maps and descriptions of items relevant to the story, such as 'Wild Mint' which my daughter really liked. This is an action packed book which would appeal to all Geronimo Stilton and dragon lovers! My daughter loved it!

My son is a big fan of Geronimo Stilton and we love all of the spin off series as well. I'm always on the lookout for new material to encourage my son's love of reading - he's really into dragons at the moment too so I was super excited when this book came up for review.

This is the first book in the new Miceking spin off series featuring Geronim Stiltonord, the Geronimo Stilton of the ancient far north. In this story Geronimo is sent on a mission to fetch some wild mint in order to cure the village chief's wife of her cold so that she can make her delicious stew for the village.

This book follows the familiar Geronimo Stilton style. There's lots going on on every page with bold colour illustrations and differing fonts and text sizes to emphasise certain words and letters. My son was a particular fan of the way the dragon's speech was portrayed with lots of emphasis on the letter s. The book is fast paced and action packed and Geronimo is still a complete scaredy mouse which provides some humour as well. My son (8.5 years) had no problem reading this book independently and I liked how definitions of certain words were included (fjord, figurehead, etc). The chapters are a decent length and we finished this book over a few nights.

The whole idea behind the series reminds me of how to train your dragon and I can't wait to see where the next book will take us and how the series will progress.

Product reviews for listing 7344: Geronimo Stilton - The Kingdom of Fantasy: The Wizard's Wand -  Author: Geronimo Stilton

Product image for Geronimo Stilton - The Kingdom of Fantasy: The Wizard's WandI, Geronimo Stilton, was called to the Kingdom of Fantasy for the ninth time. Blossom, Queen of the Fairies, had disappeared, along with three powerful magical objects: The Book of a Thousand Spells, the Crystal Sphere, and the Whispering Wand.

If those objects ended up in the wrong hands, they could destroy the whole realm. Accompanied by new, magical friends, I had to cross horrifying kingdoms full of spiders and snakes before facing a terrible evil wizard. Squeak. Could I make it in time to save Blossom and the entire Kingdom of Fantasy.
