Designed to be seen, the Philips Deco Classic LED bulbs create the appearance of traditional filament incandescent bulbs, but with all the benefits associated with LED technology. Drawing on vintage styling and designed to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the chandelier or luminaire, not only when lit but also, when not, these lamps come in a classic design with eye-catching LED filament.
Philips LED Deco Classic lamps are ideal for general and decorative indoor lighting. Mounted in full view in chandeliers, wall sconces or modern luminaires, the bulbs fit existing Edison Screw and Bayonet Cap fixtures (E14, E27 or B22).
The real beauty of the Classic LED range is that they use less energy than the classic incandescent bulb, popular in home design. With up to approximately 90%* energy savings and have an estimated lifetime of up to 15,000 hours, approximately 15 times longer than incandescent bulbs**, homeowners can look forward to hours of beautiful ambience that emulates the incandescent look and lasts like LED. LED bulbs also reach full brightness instantly.
*Energy savings compared to Philips 25W incandescent bulbs and applies to 2.5W LED Bulb.
**Lifetime compared to Philips 25W incandescent bulbs (1,000 hrs) and applies to 2.5W LED Bulb (15,000 hrs)
Product reviews...
What to do when style and affordability clash? When you want that quaint style you could only get from filament bulbs, but you don't want the stigma or cost of running those horrendously inefficient illuminators? The answer is simple, and it's here - the Philips LED Deco Classic bulbs. With all the look of an old-style filament bulb, but all the environmental and financial benefits of the low-power LED bulbs... with the added bonus that they don't get hot! No more burnt fingers, or cloth lampshades!
Available in Edison (screw fitting) or Bayonet bases, these bulbs are a sure-to-win option when you're needing to replace the bulbs in the dining room, or Grandma's flat. Anywhere that the diffused 'cool white' light of a modern LED bulb wouldn't be welcomed or appropriate.
In terms of power efficiency, these bulbs are actually quite able to hold their own. The review unit I received provides 250 lumen from 2.3w of draw, giving an extremely respectable 108.6 lumen per watt - that's 29% more light for your dollar. While this unit is a bit too dim to be used in place of any other regular illumination I have, I can see that it would have great appeal for those romantic dinners, late-night movie-watching couch-snuggles, and fancy dining establishments who may need a lot of bulbs without blowing out a lot of budget. Using the same testing rig as my previous review for the SceneSwitch bulb I got a reading of 102 lux (Lumen per Square Metre) which was ample to read by and type on the keyboard, but not quite enough to replenish the keyboard's power reserves faster than I was using them up.
Overall, this is the bulb you are looking for if you want to have quiet, ambient light at an affordable price, without the need for dimmer switches that put a huge load on the bulbs and drastically shorten their lifespans. In fact, this bulb specifically states that it should not be fitted to a dimmer switch. Because it's an LED bulb, and heat isn't an issue, it's safe to use in open fittings - such as lamp shades, desk lamps or regular ceiling fittings - and can also be used in recessed downlight fittings with a diameter of at least 10cm (4in) so it really is a versatile bulb.
