While visiting our local Paper Plus store a couple of weeks ago I noticed a sign saying buy 1 book, get the second 50% off, as children's books can sometimes be rather expensive I decided to take advantage of this deal and let Miss 2 choose a couple of new books for home (this would also be an ideal opportunity for me to get out of reading Peppa Pigs Potato City over and over again I hoped). Looking at all of the books on the book shelf Miss 2 straight away spotted the story 'Be Brave, Pink Piglet' and decided this was the book she wanted. She was drawn to the cute little pig and the rooster on the front cover telling me "it's my favourite like all the pigs at the animal farm Mummy", we had previously visited Bullswool Farm in Waihi the weekend before and her favourite part of the trip was the pigs!

Be Brave, Little Pig is a story about a little pig who goes off on a walk one morning without his Mum for the very first time, he learns how to be brave and how to confront his fears. Throughout the story Little Pig comes across several different animals a dog, a rooster, and a cow each of these animals make a sound which Little Pig isn't quite to sure about so gets a little bit scared. As the story goes on and Little Pig continues on his walk he becomes rather dirty and unrecognizable getting covered in berry juice, mud and even in a tangle of weeds. As Little Pig decides to head home to his Mum, he passes the cow, rooster and dog once again this time scaring them by the way he looks, when Little Pig returns home to his Mum she isn't frightened by him and knows exactly who he is, and calls him her brave explorer.

I felt as though this book had quite an important message throughout it, that sometimes the uncertainty of something or not knowing what to expect can be scary, and that it is okay to be scared. It also teaches you that different people can be scared of different things and that this is also okay, and that no matter what your parents will always love you.

Miss 2 loves this story pointing out each of the animals and making each of their sounds as we read the book, as we read the story a few times she cottoned on to the fact that Little Pig was a little bit scared of the animals and would say "it's okay, don't be scared". She thought it was hilarious that the Little Pig ended up so dirty and that the animals were then scared of Little Pig. A lovely little book, which has beautiful illustrations with lovely bright colours and details, with a few words per page it is ideal for younger children and easy for them to pick up on the story after reading it through several times.

Product reviews for listing 3593: Jack and the Flumflum Tree -  Author: Julia Donaldson

Product image for Jack and the Flumflum TreeJack's Granny is sick with a bad case of the moozles! And the only cure is the fruit of the fantastic flumflum tree which grows on the faraway Isle of Blowyernose. It's a perilous journey, but Jack bravely sets sail, with a motley crew of only three and a large patchwork sack that Granny has filled with an odd assortment of items from chewing-gum to tent pegs. But what use will they be against hungry sharks, a leaky boat and a thieving monkey ...?
