I was at a friends house recently and it was decided to watch this movie, I really like Scooby Doo and love KISS but wasn't sure how it would work. I knew it would be a bit far fetched as Scooby movies are usually about ghosts and zombies so I was prepared to just sit and enjoy the music.
I loved the music and that it was KISS performing the music and I would have sung aloud to the music but I'm not sure the kids would have appreciated the off key singing. My favourite scenes featured I Was Made For Lovin' You and the make up KISS is famous for. My youngest told me he loved the music that much he wants me to buy him some KISS CD to listen to and he has perfected his KISS face, he loves that he can stick his tongue out and can play his guitar (even if it is only a pretend one).
The animation was great, my other son said his favourite thing about the movie was KISS super powers and when we watched some KISS on YouTube he asked why there was no stars shooting from his eyes and no fire so I had the fun job of explaining that KISS is a real band.
When I saw this up for request I knew I had to put my name down for it, I have three Scooby Doo fans, one very big one, and I grew up loving Scooby Doo (but not Scrapy :P ) and I was keen to see if this would be a fun film or not. We meet the Mystery team on their way to KISS World on the belief that they will be there to try and solve a mystery. What they encounter is the famous KISS group who are definitely more larger than life than normal and the Crimson Witch who is on a mission to free the Destroyer! When my main Scooby Doo lover saw the DVD case she immediately had a huge grin on her face and was asking me what it was called etc. and when I said we would watch it with dinner, she couldn't wait!
The animation stays true to what you know and expect from a Scooby Doo cartoon and I love that we still get the same voice actors in these iconic roles, it's also great to note that the members of KISS lend their voices to their characters. I watched this with a friend and her kids, and for a change after dinner, instead of hearing "can I go play in the room", all five kids were settled back in the living room, eyes fixed firmly to the TV.
The plot was pretty decent, better than what I actually expected it to be, I was thinking something hideously corny but overall I think that it did a good job of mashing up Scooby Doo with the craziness that I expect from KISS. The soundtrack is rockin'! There's only one song in here that isn't a KISS song, so if you don't like Rock n Roll, stay away. My kids, however, loved listening to the songs, my youngest was feet tappin' away and I looked up some more songs on YouTube for them to listen to and all were enjoyed.
There are two, rather short, special features on the DVD. One asks the crew and cast who they think they are, Scooby or Shaggy, and they were fun little conversations. The other special addition looks like it was a teaser trailer, this I found to be perfect for showing the kids that KISS are a real band, but I think something with a little more history, or a quick show and tell would have done really well on this as well. It did lead to me finding out that the group is over 40 years old though, older than I thought it was.
All in all this was a fun movie night and I know that the kids are going to be watching it over and over. Rock on Scooby Doo!!!

Tucker and Dale vs Evil is a hilarious comedy about a pair of harmless hillbillies who are mistaken for vicious serial killers. Tucker (Alan Tudyk) and Dale (Tyler Labine) are headed towards their newly acquired dream 'summer home' when they save the life of a gorgeous college student (Katrina Bowden) who's camping in the woods with some friends. Before long a series of misunderstandings leads to Tucker and Dale being labelled psycho killers by the holidaying students. The situation quickly turns for the worse with ghastly but hilarious consequences.
