The infamous, Most Wanted Goosebumps characters are out on the loose and they're coming after you! Catch them all, undead or alive!
Ray Gordon really likes the circus. His uncle, Theo, is a performer in Koko's Klown Academy and he invites Ray to come join him for the summer. At first, Ray's parents are reluctant - they know their son has a habit of getting himself into strange situations. But Ray manages to convince them that he'll be on his best behaviour.
The circus itself is very cool. The clowns stay in their makeup all day and only go by their clown names. Ray becomes a clown-in-training named Mr. Belly-Bounce. But the longer he's there, the scarier things become. There are whisperings about a place called Clown Street and nobody, including Murder the Clown, wants to go there. Will Ray be able to survive the dark secrets of the circus?
Product reviews...
I grew up knowing the Goosebumps name and I was curious to see if the brand has stood the test of time well, or not if the case may be, it was a trip down memory lane reading what some previous titles are in this series (that I have read) and memories of the TV series.
At the start there is a brief intro where we are told the story will be told from Ray's point of view and given a reason as to why 'Murder the Clown' is on the most wanted list. It took a little getting into the book as I didn't like the writing style of the book at all, it suits the book as it is just a 12 year old speaking to us but that didn't stop it annoying me until I got into my groove with the book and was able to overcome that. The story is pretty typical, person join a troupe of clowns and learns that they aren't as jolly as one would expect clowns to be, and if you don't like clowns already the obviously you should steer clear of this book.
As an adult I have to wonder why the hell Ray's uncle, knowing what nasty stuff is going on, still invites a 12 year old along... But putting that aside... this isn't too bad a story. If you enjoy the goosebumps stories then you will enjoy this one, it is a tried and true formula that continues to delight kids who want to be scared. There were a few moments that don't make sense, but you can't read this and expect it all to come into line perfectly. The characters are decent, though my favorite character barely features in this story.
This was a nice trip down memory lane, though the story didn't thrill me I will hold onto the book as it is a nice and easy forray into horror stories for the kids when they're old should they wish.
I was so happy that I was allocated the Goosebumps Most Wanted book! I use to read Goosebumps all the time growing up so couldn't wait to compare the newer books to the old school style! I was not dissapointed and read it cover to cover before letting my son get his hands on it! He inherited all of mine so couldn't wait to read it either!
Goosebumps always leave you guessing and you can rarely guess what is going to happen next which is what I love about them! I also love that you can pick up any book and get right into it wether you have read the previous books in the series or not!
This story is based on Ray who is invited by his Uncle Theo to visit the circus but not all is as it seems! The Circus turns out as a nightmare that Ray had not anticipated! He befriends a clown and the make it their mission to discover what "Clown Street" is together and it is not pretty! My son who is seven enjoyed the book occasionally asking what words were or what they meant but he really enjoyed it and had finished the entire book in one day!
