Product reviews...
I am a big fan of heat and eat products, I think they are handy to have to whip out and make a dinner or lunch that little bit more special. They also suit the lifestyle of our family, we like to have stuffed bread dinners, and lunches.
The fact that this bread is both gluten free, and made of fresh natural ingredients was really exciting to me, fresh and wholesome seems to always win hands down in taste! So it was with high hopes that I tried this bread. I stuffed it with cheese, salami, and a layer of tomato paste and popped it in the oven. In no time at all it was ready to eat, I cut the pieces small and handed them out at work as a nice warm morning tea treat.
The first thing I noticed when I bit into my Gluten-Free Garlic Flattie was how moist it was, the issue I have had with flat breads before is that they can be a little dry and doughy, this bread was moist and light. It was a very refreshing surprise. Now I was a little disappointed, I could have used this for dipping or just with butter on it, well that means it goes on the shopping list for next time so I can experiment a little more!
The feedback from my colleague's was just as positive, that fact that it was so simple to make a yummy treat was a plus, the texture of the bread, and the moistness was appreciated, and the subtle flavour of the bread was noted too. They felt that it would be a great staple to have in the fridge of freezer and use at a moment's notice. All in all the 12 people who tried it, loved it, I think that speaks volumes and it goes with-out saying that this will be added to my shopping list, and I'm sure there are plenty of people from work who are adding it too! I think I must add that this product is great value for money, as a little filled us all up too!
I was keen to try this range and was excited to get the garlic bread to try. Although my family in no longer completely gluten free I do tend to eat gluten free where possible.
When first receiving this product I was not surprised it needed refrigeration - I was actually glad that this was suggested. I normally put bread in the fridge to make it last and found this an extremely helpful when buying gluten free in the past. It keeps it nice and moist and I find it softens up when brought to room temp.
I was keen to try this as soon as I received it but my initial thought was to wait until I had the oven going to heat it. It was great however that there were 4 suggestions on the back as to how to heat this product. I cut is in half and tried heating it in the oven and the other half in the toaster just to compare. The oven seemed to take forever to warm through, however the toaster was quick and easy - it was a great thing that the bread was flat enough to fit into a toaster.
When heated the bread was light and fluffy. There was no way that the family realised that it was gluten free (gluten free bread is normally a give away because of it's dryness). There was a lovely garlic flavour, however I did find that this taste was not even across the whole loaf of bread - this is something I would have liked to see. I would of loved to see this in a more user friendly packet as although we did eat the whole thing I would normally save this for two meals/snacks and would have been nice to have a packet that I could of sealed.
It is great to know that there is a garlic bread option that can be used for gluten free and non gluten free at dinner parties or take a plate.
This product will serve as an important lesson to me for future review products. When this item arrived in the mail, I remember that it felt like playing a game of pass the parcel, unwrapping layer upon layer of wrapping before unveiling the product. I now realise that this was because the item needs to be stored in the fridge or freezer. Unfortunately for me I stored it for a couple of days at room temperature in the pantry, so when I went to check out the product, it had some small dots of mould growing.
While disappointing, this was my fault and nothing to do with the actual product. If I had purchased it from a supermarket, I would have taken notice the way in which it was stored in the shop, and known to keep it chilled. As it is, the presence of mould is just a testament to the quality of natural ingredients, as a more artificial product would remain "unmoulded".
So determined to make the most of the flatbread loaf, I chopped out the mould bits, lightly brushed it with olive oil and gave it a good roast in the oven until the outside just started to crisp and the bread was soft right through. For a flatbread product that is meant to be stored in the fridge and freezer, I was surprised at the softness of the product. Most other flatbreads are firmer to the touch, but this product even crumbled when removing the "cultured" parts.
I simply served the loaf on a plate with a knife and some cheese, allowing people to make their own cheesy garlic bread sandwiches. The garlic was more of a subtle flavour, and would have been even tastier if I had added some chopped herbs of chives. It was a little bit dry, but that is compared to a normal sandwich bread. This is the moistest flatbread brand that I have come across so far, which helps to justify the high price of the product compared to other brands.
The thickness is ideal for being chopped and grilled for bruschetta, and I will certainly keep an eye out for it in the future (I'll just need to remember to store it correctly this time)
I was so pleased to be able to try this Heat and Eat Garlic Flattie from Purebread. We had the opportunity to sample some Purebread products at the Gluten Free show recently and were really impressed so this was a great product for my four coeliacs in the house to try. They all miss yummy white bread (and I'm not really making much of an effort to make my own gluten free bread) so to know there are quality products like this that we can eat is fantastic.
We received this with a few days left on its use by date so saved it for a night that this would be a welcome addition to dinner. Coming back late from our Easter break was the perfect choice. After a yummy dinner of baked chicken in the oven we put this in brushed with olive oil and after about ten minutes it was perfectly warm. This coincided with the kids wanting to know what was for pudding and I said "garlic bread if you finish all your dinner" and they went crazy. Plates were cleaned and the loaf disappeared in minutes. The general consensus was that this tasted amazing! The texture was really moist and doughy which we all loved and it tasted almost sweet (it isn't) with the garlic taste being very subtle. The texture was just so perfect and I really wished we had two loaves.
I love that this is gluten and dairy free and best of all it is made entirely of organic and natural ingredients (even filtered living water which raised a chuckle in our house) and the packaging is compostable. I love that this has no numbers or anything I don't know in it. It is actually bread that you would make yourself (unless you don't like me).
At $8.90 this is obviously no comparison with normal bread but is fairly typical for gluten free especially organic. I would buy this if I was wanting some divine white bread and can definitely recommend this product. Fantastic and I look forward to going online and ordering some products.
Ok, first off I would like to say that this flat-bread was quite impressive, it shares many of it's characteristics with other unleavened bread products I've had before, such as Pitas and Wraps, but I have never before tried a flat-bread version of a Garlic Bread. The only thing was, this bread was not quite as impressive as I thought it would be, for starters, I always enjoy an infusion of garlic butter which has soaked into the inside of the bread, whereas this bread simply had garlic powder sprinkled over it, which not only gave it a rather dismal taste, but it also gave quite an unpleasant texture, it just wasn't right holding the bread in my hands and feeling it covered in powder.
I tried the bread in three different ways, first off, I tried some untoasted, which just didn't taste right, then I had some just after being toasted, and it was alright, but I couldn't detect any flavour at all, and then I used the bread like I was making a couple of sandwiches, but the bread didn't have quite the expected effect on me. Now, to make things clear, I did not find the flat-bread completely disgusting, it wasn't that bad, but I am used to more of a spongy type of bread, and so, using the flat-bread the way I did, it was something of a failed experiment.
The bread was easy to use, it wasn't hard to toast using a normal toaster, and while it wasn't what I was expecting, I still enjoyed eating it, and it could be used for some meals where the flavour of the bread was not an important issue, and it may add a nice bit of flair to the meal, but for regular use, this bread just doesn't seem to work. With the added benefit of being gluten-free, I think that this may be a very interesting replacement for normal garlic bread, so I am not saying it is bad in general, but I personally didn't find it to be as delicious as I expected it.
I was lucky enough to be given some of this garlic bread to review and it was good timing as I was about to holiday with my sister who is gluten free and I was stoked to be able to bring some food along that she could enjoy with the rest of us.
This bread had been stored in the fridge for a few days and we decided to heat it according to the oven option on the packet, although I was pleased to see there were clear instructions for various heating methods including sandwich press, toaster and BBQ - we certainly wouldn't have bothered heating up the oven if it wasn't on already.
Even though this bread had been stored for a few days, it was absolutely beautifully soft and fresh. Everybody agreed that you would not even know it was gluten free. We served it as an accompaniment to a BBQ dinner, but decided to save some of the bread for my sister to use the next day instead of a bun as we were having home made burgers. It made a delicious burger bun the day after and I could also see it being great sliced and then grilled or fried, however it was all gone before we could try this ourselves.
The only thing we noticed is that the garlic flavour wasn't as strong as we were expecting, but the product was absolutely delicious. I personally would only buy this again if I was entertaining someone who was gluten free (based purely on price, not taste). But it's great to have some tasty go-to products which are safe to serve to my gluten-free friends. As I don't normally buy gluten free products, it's hard for me to comment on the price, but I do highly recommend this.
