I enjoy experimenting with different herbs and spices though when I saw the description for this I originally thought 'no, not for me', but after seeing some still needing a home I reminded myself that that's a great thing about KIWIreviews, I can try it without a huge dent in my wallet. Upon arrival my first thought was that it was rather plain and boring. Whilst I do like the fact that it is minimalistic I still find it doesn't really catch my eye and once or twice my wife nearly ended up throwing it out (because I left it lying around).
My first use for this was to mix some of this in my pasta and it did add a nice tinge to the dish but nothing that stood out. The second (and third and fourth) time that I used this was in my rice. I decided to put a couple of teaspoons in the bottom of my rice cooker with a cup of water before putting my rice in and topping up with water. Leaving it to do its thing a slight aroma began to fill the house, drawing my mother in law to it when she came in for dinner. I then paired the rice with some honey, soy and garlic tofu and it was so good that I have made the rice another two times, a hit each time.
For other dishes, not so keen but to give my rice that added flavor, yes please.
I was very pleased to be able to try out this product. I do have to say that the first impression of it wasn't very good simply because I didn't think that the packaging was very good. In fact it seemed pretty boring and had nothing that made it stand out or would make you grab it off the shelf to see what it was.
Once I opened the first lot of packaging I was very impressed that the spice mix itself was in a re-sealable plastic bag and that there was a recipe included in with it to give you a fantastic idea on how to start using your new packet of spice! I thought that this was a really nice touch and as a buyer I really loved it.
We eat a lot of curry and stir-frys and we love Thai food so I was excited to try this spice mix out. I have been trying to make more of my own curry's and stir-frys from scratch rather than buying a ready made packet of sauce to mix with the meat and vegetables, so this spice was a great addition to my pantry and it has certainly helped make my own meals easier and more flavorsome! This is a great product and really does make any Thai inspired meal taste great and it's so easy to use too!
Our family are spice and curry mad so was excited to try these. To start with I looked at the packaging and thought it was pretty simplistic and bland BUT when I thought about it further, this would actually stand out a lot more and be more noticeable on supermarket shelves. Especially with how so many other spices are all packaged the same ie. in glass containers or in short and stubby packets full of in your face colours.
I was not sure on what to expect as when I opened the packet a very strong smell of lime hit me. I am more of a curry/spice fan so decided why not chuck my finger in and give it a wee taste test. I could taste a small amount of chilli in it but as its Thai I would have thought it would have been a little bit stronger. I pondered on what to use this on and decided in the end to mix it into some bread crumbs and use it to coat some chicken for tea. I coated a couple of chicken breasts and threw them into the oven. These smelled amazing while cooking.
I was very surprised at how the Thai seasoning really made the batter amazing! I could have added a bit more but didn't want to over power it. Next time I think I might make some soup or even use it as a sprinkle over some roasted vegetables to give it a bit of a zing! All in all I loved the flavour but it wasn't quite hot/spicy enough for me. Although some people don't like too much spice!
The smell of this seasoning excited my senses. Before even trying the taste of it, I was looking forward to the experience. The cumin and lime aromas were the main things that stood out to me when smelling it. I tasted a bit straight from the packet and the flavour lingered in my mouth. I quite enjoyed it even though it wasn't with any food!
My husband and I had a chat about how we would like to use the seasoning other than the basic suggestions on the packet. After a bit of a thinking, Google searching and walking around the supermarket, we settled on filo pastry parcels with fish, prawns, cream cheese and thai seasoning (we adjusted a recipe on the side of the filo pastry to suit our desire to try out the thai seasoning). We thought that this would make a tasty meal which was different to what we would usually cook. It is one that we will be doing again. We kept the parcels pretty plain of Mr 5, who likes plain food. Miss 3 loved the full flavour version. I think that we needed to add more of the seasoning to the mix in order to give it more of the thai seasoning flavour. Having said that, it tasted really good.
My mind took me to some alternative options too and I thought that it would be nice in either butter (made up like garlic butter for bread), mixed in with some sour cream or with chicken, veges and coconut cream on top of rice noodles. I am still to try these ideas though.
I love the resealable packet of this product. I also like the colour combination of the outer packaging. Through the little hole at the front of the package, I can see the contents of seasoning. There are little flicks of green amongst the yellowy coloured mix of spices.
After trying a couple of these seasonings, I know that I will be checking out the range when I am at the supermarket and desiring some next flavours. They are a great option for people who are wanting to loose weight as you can still have the flavour without all the extra calories from sauces etc. Of course, they are especially nice mixed in with sauces too!
I was keen to give this seasoning a go, but had no idea how I was going to use it. After finding that the recipe inside the packet was actually not for this seasoning I decided to test my culinary skills (which I am not very imaginative normally) and came up with a recipe that worked amazingly.
I love Thai and so the spices in this excited me. I was oven cooking/roasting tomatoes in the oven and was keen to try this seasoning with these. I first of all diced up about 400g chicken and mixed this with 163g can of coconut cream and 3 teaspoons of the seasonings. I left this to sit for about 30mins. I diced an onion and cooked this, added the chicken mix and then added equivalent of about a tin of my oven cooked tomatoes. I let is simmer for about 10 minutes and then served with rice.
Well this dish was really easy to make and tasted divine. The whole family including the 11 month old and the 3 1/2 year old loved it and it was gone in no time. Because I had left the chicken to sit it was tender and tasted great right through. The sauce was just magic.
I was really surprised by this seasoning and will definitely have it in the cupboard as I feel it could make many a boring dish - delish. I love the size of the packaging but would have liked to see a recipe so that I knew what quantities I was working with. Mrs Rogers I will be trying your other seasonings
