This is the first time that we've read any of the books from the Double Trouble series - Dinosaur Danger is the third book in the series but can definitely be read as a stand alone book. In this book the twins, Thomas and Cooper, are going on a school excursion, just what mischief will they get up to?

This book really appealed to my son (6.5 years) - the twins are forever pulling pranks and it was hilarious from beginning to end and had my son in an almost continuous fit of giggles. I'm super picky about books and I was glad to find that the humour in this one was for the most part tasteful (there is a little toilet humour right at the very end of the book but I can overlook that).

We read the book over a couple of nights. My son started off reading it by himself as the print is large and the words are simple and easy to read but he got a bit bored with it as he found the chapters to be a bit too long. There are a few simple black and white illustrations throughout the book which my son enjoyed looking at.

We both enjoyed this book immensely - my son is already asking when we can read it again and at just $10 a book, we may just have to check out some of the other Double Trouble books as well.

The Double Trouble books are chapter books for early independent readers. There are short chapters in the book, and the sentences are all short and punchy, with pretty simple vocabulary for children to tackle. The subject is about two twin boys who love to prank people. I think that kind of thing would appeal to most children.

My daughter selected this book to be read the other night. She loves dinosaurs and she thought the cover of this one seemed really interesting and exciting. So we sat down with it. The read was nice and quick - about 20 minutes cover to cover. However, if she had read it herself she might have done a chapter a night.

I found this one quite a good read. Having one mischievous 7 year old, I felt I could understand the parents and how they reacted to things. The twins seem to have painted on ears too! The pranks were quite funny though and we did giggle along together at the antics.

There is a bit of toilet humour as well as a bit of scary excitement . These things all came together quite well considering the reading level it was aiming for as well. There are a few longer words - relating to the dinosaurs and the scientific side of the museum, though my daughter read those words easier than others. This is one, which I will happily re-read. It was good fun and certainly worth the $10.

Product reviews for listing 3287: Geronimo Stilton - The Mystery in Venice -  Author: Geronimo Stilton

Product image for Geronimo Stilton - The Mystery in VeniceWhen my friend Petunia Pretty Paws gave me a crystal figurine of a boat as a gift, I had to accept it. After all, I have the biggest crush on Petunia! But oh, was that crystal boat ugly! So I wasn't too sad when my cousin Trap accidentally broke it, especially when I discovered a piece of paper inside with a mysterious message from someone in Venice, Italy, asking for help!

A gentlemouse never ignores a request for assistance. So I, Geronimo Stilton, would do whatever it took to save the day!
