Located in the shopping complex on the corner of College Street and Botanical Road, this 'chippie' is a hidden secret of mammoth proportions. With some unique ways of dealing with the food, this has to be a great place to grab some good munchies.
The staff are friendly, helpful and very skilled in their chosen career, the store is clean and tidy and has a good open feel to it, and from the number of orders that fly out the door and the cue of cars out front, it's popularity is not in question.
A great chippie, well worth visiting.
Product reviews...
After seeing the reviews about this place I had to give it a try. I bought dinner for myself and a mate, and we are both eaters of large portions, so it was a good sized meal. Nasi Goreng, a scoop of chips with the garlic butter, some fish and a big bottle of drink. After a chat with the guy behind the counter, in which I mentioned the reviews I read on here, he gave me a good deal and I was stoked. Thought I was going to have to use eftpos, but walked away with change from the $15 in my pocket.
The Nasi Goreng was awesome, like combination fried rice, but with lots more flavour and it was a VERY generous serving. So much so that we couldnt finish it all. The garlic butter made a bit of a mess of the couch, but that was our own fault for not slapping some newspaper down first, so be aware of that one. The fish was perfection itself, full of flavour and it was cooked so well, it just fell apart in our mouths. The drink, well, it was the same fizzy stuff you can buy anywhere, but the price was great for a takeawy place, only $2.50 for a big bottle.
Many great thumbs up to you all for a great feed at an awesome price. I'll never eat pizza again!
They don't sell burgers...
They sell MEGA Burgers. Meals in a bun. This time around I tried their Steak and Egg Mega Burger, without the onion. WHAT A FEED!
The one burger filled me to overflowing (the Creosote Point, for those in the know) and I was feeling distinctly bloated by the end. No chips, no drink, just the burger of bloatedness.
Taste, awesome. The combination of sauces made this a taste explosion that would satisfy even the deadest tastebuds. Visual appeal was tops, though the burger was a bit sloppy due to excess sauces... which also made it a little difficult to keep a firm grip on. To solve that, I simply cut it into quarters and ate it in bits. Much better!
All in all, a great munch! Well worth the $8.00 pricetag.
A basic order was all we needed to test these folks... so a scoop of chips, a piece of battered fish, and one crumbed, and 2 hotdogs was all we wanted. Then we sat back and watched as order after order flowed out the door to the people waiting in their cars outside. This place is tucked away off the main road, but it certainly isn't hidden from the locals, who all seem to enjoy a good feed from Fishworld.
Eventually our order was served (without any undue delay I must add) and we chose the free optional garlic salt on our chips and fish. The fish and hotdogs were well drained, placed on a paper plate with a napkin under them to absorb any remaining oil, and bagged, then the chips were garlic-salted and wrapped and off we went.
Upon unwrapping them, the smell was wonderful, and had the tastebuds going nuts already... the crumbed fish was perfect, well cooked, flavoursome and almost falling apart, the hotdog was quite tasty but had been just a little overcooked so the batter was a little too crispy, and the chips were cooked thru to perfection... but had no taste!
Looking back on it, we should have opted for paying an extyra $1.50 and had the chips drowned in garlic butter, or bought some tomato sauce... but hindsight is always 20/20 isn't it.
Overall the whole store impressed me greatly, the food was great (despite a few tiny hiccups) and I look forward to going back and trying their burgers.
The comments from my companion, who is a regular customer, were much the same, and included a high commendation for their Nasi Goreng - which is superb apparently. We shall have to test that theory I think...
