So much was in the media last year or so about The Wiggles changing it's line up but I hadn't heard about Hi-5 changing three of it's five members except when I took my children to see the Hi-5 documentary Some Kind of Wonderful at the movies which was essentially their audition process for the new members. Apart from the one song they performed at the end of the documentary the Dream House DVD is the first time we had seen the new line up.
My girls (aged 4 and 5.5) didn't even comment about the new members I suppose that is because they have seen a few other members come and go over the years. The new line up maintains the old formula of two male and three females (one of which has always been Asian). The new members all appear very confident and someone that is unaware of the history of the group would have a hard time picking out the newbies from the experienced members.
There is of course all the usual things you expect from Hi-5 with the puppets Jup-Jup and Chats big dance numbers with a young live audience, duets and solos. My girls loved this DVD as they did with all the other Hi-5 DVD's they have watched. The theme of this DVD is magic and dreams. They are all new songs and they are very catchy and I found that we were singing along to the chorus of each on the first viewing. The set and costumes were all very bright and colourful as we expect from Hi-5.
My favourite scene was when the two guys were building and they discovered that they could make music with their tools. This encouraged us to see what music we could make with things around the house. I really like it when the kids like to take what they have seen on TV and get creative and off the couch. The Hi-5 formula is still as appealing to our family as it has ever been. It gets the girls singing and dancing and they really enjoy it.
