I am not Celiac but I do like to avoid gluten in my food as much as possible! Before you eye-roll this is more down to the water retention I notice when I am consuming large amounts, I still can and do love a good gluten-filled cake and will not keel over! Some gluten-free pastas tend to have that more 'wholemeal'-y taste to them. You know, something that's just a little off. That's the thing that I really like about the San Remo line of gluten-free pasta, it cooks just like normal pasta, it swells to a normal size (sometimes you'd be surprised!) and doesn't break apart at all.

The packages are a little smaller and more expensive than your typical penne or spaghetti, but this is to be expected when buying a specialty food item and I think 500g a box is more than ample for the cost and how much I use it (1-2 x per week) To me it is worth the additional cost to have a GF pasta that acts like regular pasta. I often use this in my partner and I's dinners, and he did not notice that it was gluten free at all.

Overall I will continue to purchase this over other gluten-free pasta brands.

As a person with Coeliac Disease finding gluten free products that taste as good as those you foundly remember with gluten can often be a challenge however more and more companies are releasing products that are gluten free and ones that taste good too. For myself my most purchased product from San Remo in the gluten free range is the Gluten Free Spaghetti #225 250g. The packaging is a long oblong box which clearly states it is Gluten Free so there is no risk of mistaking it for a product that has gluten in it.

My go to quick dish with this product is Spaghetti Bolognese, it doesn't take long for the pasta to cook so generally by the time the mince is cooked the spaghetti is ready. I fill a pot with water and wait for it to boil before adding in the spaghetti pasta. Before adding it to the pot I snap the spaghetti in half as I have always tended to do this when cooking any kind of spaghetti. I find its a good idea to keep stirring the pot every so often to prevent the spaghetti from sticking to the pot. I usually let the pot return to boil once the spaghetti is added then turn the element to 4 (element highest setting is 5). I set the oven timer for 8 minutes and its done. Once the water is drained off I add the spaghetti to the mince reasonably quickly otherwise leaving it to sit in the pot it will stick together very quickly and becomes difficult to seperate.

One thing to note is the colour is a little more yellow than what you would probably expect from pastas that have gluten in them. Don't let this put you off though as personally I feel that is the only noteable difference and if I didn't know otherwise I would assume this pasta was a pasta with gluten. I don't personally feel the taste is any different from other spaghetti that contain gluten. Often the worry with gluten free food is it can leave an unplesant after taste or have an unusal taste overall, I find this isn't the case with this spaghetti and is one I always recommend to other fellow Coeliacs or those who prefer a gluten free diet. I have served this dish to others before and they have commented that they were really surprised how good the spaghetti tasted and would of assumed it was a spaghetti that had gluten in it, this coming from a couple who are fussy eaters was pleasing!

Generally you will find these products in a seperate area of the supermarket rather than with all the other pasta range and are most commonly with all the other gluten free products the store stocks. Although a little more pricey this is to be expected since it is gluten free and more expensive flours and gums are used as ingredients. I recommend this as one of the best gluten free spaghetti's available.

I had this product arrive in the mail today, and went straight to the kitchen to cook it. I received the Penne variety of Gluten Free pasta, so I had a go making this meal with flat mushrooms, seared ham, and a rich creamy cheese sauce. It was quite a bit darker yellow in colour, and slightly translucent, but the pasta was very simple to cook. You definitely need to use a lot of water during preparation, and stir it almost constantly. If you allow it to settle, then they will both stick to each other and stick to the pan.

In the end, I found the meal to be very tasty indeed. The pasta was al dente, and there were no discernable differences in flavour between this Gluten-free product, and the usual gluten-containing type. A great texture, with a consistency, with a great shape that held the pasta sauce nicely. As someone with lactose intolerance, I like the idea of being able to enjoy this meal without having to worry about any digestive problems, and I know many friends with Coeliac Disease that would be pleased to know there is a safe alternative that has the same great flavour.

After trying out the macaroni pasta a little while ago and actually liking it, thought tonight we would try out the Gluten Free Spirals, to add to a mince dish we were having for dinner. I cooked it all as the directions on the box, adding a little bit of salt so it wouldn't stick together, It hadnt been cooking long when I could see the pasta was starting to look glumpy and gross so I stopped it and tipped it into a drainer.

Sadly it all stuck together and it took effort to pull apart, it sat in the drainer draining while I was stirring the mince, once it was ready to go into the pan, it was all stuck and dropped into the pan in one big messy lump. Pulling it apart with the spoon to stir it though the sauce and mince seemed to do it well, helping it let go of each other and go though the meal evenly.

It was served up and the kids ate 2 helpings of dinner and loved it, I however wasn't a fan of the pasta though it, but it wont put me off to try again maybe a different way of cooking the pasta. The meal wasnt bad it was eatable so that is a good thing. And with my daughter needing gluten free having Coeliac disease this is perfect for her. The price isnt bad and it makes a decent amount of pasta this fed 3 of us with enough to feed us for another night.

We were given the Gluten Free Lasagna No 228 200g packet of San Remo pasta to review. We are still relatively new to the Gluten Free range of products and life-style, so it is always awesome when KIWIreviews are given gluten free products to offer to the members. Especially as gluten free products are generally quite costly, and have the stigma of being tasteless, or of tasting a lot like cardboard.

When we received the package from KIWIreviews it was really good to see the words gluten free are printed in nice large lettering on the front of the packet. Another problem with finding gluten free products, is finding them on the shelves, as not all have it printed clearly for all to see, you have to read the entire packaging just to find out what you need to know. Meaning some products are often passed up, as sometimes in todays busy society you do not have time to be hanging around in a crowded supermarket reading everything. So San Remo definitely did a good thing with this.

Upon opening I must confess I did notice the pasta looked, ummmm, kinda washed out and weird in colouring, not like most pastas I am used to using. But not being deterred by something as simple as colour, I continued on and made up my lasagne, following the instructions on the packet to the letter as this was the first time I had made lasagne. Once cooked the end product was probably a bit of a let down. Parts of the pasta was dry, while other parts seemed to be extra soggy and sticky. I do not know if this is because of my cooking, or if it is the pasta itself lol

All in all this is a great product, that we will most definitely purchase. It does not taste like cardboard at all, and I am keen to try more of the range. My daughter liked it, which is what is really important for us at this time Smile Icon

Gluten free pasta - something I've always heard of and seen in the supermarket but something I have never tried until now. Boy am I glad I got the opportunity to review this and so is my husband! In our household there is me, my husband and daughter. So this product got a good testing from 3 different people with varying taste buds as well as from my niece who visits often and enjoyed a pasta meal for dinner with us.

As a bit of an introduction/explanation - my husband is what his mum terms "allergic" to gluten and wheat but I would term more as it being an "intolerance". He spent 4-5years when he was a teenager living at home gluten and wheat free - when you ask him now he will say it was the worst years of his life and he lived on rice crackers (he still hates eating those now)! Subsequently some years ago he decided he had had enough and slowly started eating gluten and wheat products again and is now okay with them in day to day life. In saying this he is very aware and doesn't eat a lot of these products or he starts to feel very ill and will break out in hives etc. Our daughter who is 7months old and is eating solids (and trying LOTS of new foods) is thought to possibly have an intolerance to diary (like I did when I was a baby) so we have been looking for lots of alternatives, knowing the day might come when we need to go completely dairy free for awhile.

Needless to say meal times are often "interesting" to say the least - finding things we can ALL eat is sometimes tricky - I personally don't have any allergies/intolerances now & LOVE pasta but I often end up cooking something else for my husband because he's had his intake of gluten for the day or week. Consequently our daughter ends up having bits n pieces of leftovers from one or both of us or she gets baby food because it works out easier. Making 3 different but the same meals after a busy day at work can be very tiring! I was totally excited when I got to try this pasta for dinner - we got the Penne version - so I opted to make a easy mac n cheese for my husband and I. For my daughter I simply put some pasta aside before adding the sauce and she had her pasta plain. Our niece was also here and she had the same meal as my husband and I.

To start - I followed the simple instructions on the back of the packet and my pasta cooked perfectly! I have to say I noticed the difference straight away in the cooking of this gluten free pasta - the pasta/water went thicker and was like rice is when cooked (and all the starch is there). I simply rinsed the pasta before serving and it went back to normal. First thing I did was try a piece and I have to say as a person who is fine eating gluten - this pasta tasted nice and like any other pasta I have eaten before. I mean this as the best possible comment ever - in the past I have tried gluten free products and boy oh boy have I been able to taste that there is no gluten in there. This pasta was completely different - I felt so excited for my husband and was happy he thought the pasta tasted just like any other too! Our daughter was happy chewing on bits of pasta and was completely oblivious to the fact that it was gluten and dairy free!

I will definitely be buying this product again and I have already found it in our supermarket (with ease thanks to the fantastic packaging). It tastes great - seriously not like any gluten free product any of us in this house have tired. Yes it is a little more expensive - but when it means all of us can eat it then its worth it. Fully recommend this to everyone! Smile Icon

To start off, my daughter has Coeliac disease so having some gluten free products for pasta means a lot to us. I make our pasta as I have never found a pasta that taste good, everything we have tried was gross and lumpy hence I went to making it. When these products were on list for a review I jumped at the chance for something different, a different brand in all hopes it was good and we would and could actually eat it. I asked to try the Macaroni as its one thing I can't actually make.

When the box arrived the colours were good and I love how the words Gluten Free are nice and big across the box, my daughter who is 5 read it and got excited as she knows those words very well. There is only 250g in the box which is enough for the recipe on the back. The cooking directions are good and the recipe on the back is good and easy to follow as well, but I didn't use the recipe this time around.

They aren't like the normal elbows for macaroni but nice little cylinder shapes. I did find that I didn't put salt in the pot they stuck to each other and the bottom of the pot so salt really needs to be added (I couldn't find my salt at the time). I cooked it for about 10mins all up and then added it to my cheese sauce and veges, It didn't break into mess or go goopy and lumpy. The best bit was it made 5 bowls for dinner it would of been 6 but I had a bit stick to the bottom of the pot. It also did well in the fridge after cooking and the kids ate it the next night as well that was bowl 4 and 5.

The taste wasn't spit it out image, I actually ate it and I really really don't like Gluten free pasta, both kids of course ate it and loved it, their plates were almost licked clean. I do like the little box but that would mean I need to buy a few boxes to keep in the cupboard for those days I have nothing else. Would be awesome if you could buy a big bag in the macaroni pasta with a bit on the back saying only need 250g per meal. Overall I will be looking for this in the supermarket to put in my cupboard. There is so many ways you can make this, with the recipe on the back using chicken or with a cheese sauce, different meats, veges etc, the list goes on.

We have been required to eat gluten free products for about six months now so I am slowly developing a taste for products that are great and products that are not so great. Gluten free pasta is always a bit of a hit or miss affair apparently bad we had only found one that we liked so have actually tended to just avoid pasta and focus o other carbohydrates for dinner. I was pretty excited however that this San Remo box of spirals arrived on the exact day that we had gathered several kilos of cheery tomatoes, basil and some garlic from my garden. I was planning on making a salad and then thought I would risk the pasta and make my all time favourite pasta dish (a Gordon Ramsey recipe which is the best comfort food ever!)

Hubby had resigned himself to never being able to eat this pasta dish again so he was a bit surprised when he walked in the door and saw what I was dishing up. I had cooked the pasta as per directions in a pot of boiling water for about 10 minutes until I was happy that it was al dente. Whilst it cooked I prepared my sauce and grated my cheese then once the pasta was drained added it all together and served.

This was the best rendition of the pasta dish I had ever prepared declared hubby and made me check that it was actually gluten free as it tasted so good! I actually think we all liked the taste of this pasta better than the normal wheat based pasta. It tasted so good and the texture and presentation was perfect. There was absolutely none left when we had finished dinner and for one of the first times the girls had completely finished their plates.

I will definitely be buying this many many times and I am now looking forward to trying the different pasta varieties in this range. If you are on a gluten free diet for whatever reason I can definitely recommend trying this pasta as it is so good that you won't realise it isn't wheat. I am lucky enough to have a choice over gluten free or not but would definitely prefer this over a gluten based pasta. I am so thankful that the rest of the family have a pasta option that means they are not missing out on some of their favourite dishes.

Thanks San Remo!!
