"I like this book!" announced Mr Four as we turned to the first page and I read it to him. I asked him why - he responded that it read "This is the story of the Avengers!" and it had pictures of lots of different people off to a fancy dress party. Mr Four had a dress-up day at his playgroup earlier in the year and he has never forgotten it, so this brought the whole experience back to him.

As we read on, there were lots more questions about why all the people were shown in their ordinary clothes and then in their costumes. Mr Three thought some of the costumes were hilarious, especially the Hulk's because he suddenly got fatter and turned green. Mr Three goes to the same playgroup so he knows about dressing up too. They wanted to know why Thor and Loki did not have two sets of clothing. Mr Four said they might not have much money so that sorted that one!

They both decided Nick Fury was a pirate because he had a patch over one eye. Mr Three has a patch which he got from a discount store, and ran to get it so he could dress up like a pirate too. He wore it while we finished reading the book.

The boys are not quite old enough to understand the story yet. They have not been exposed to Avengers movies or books so the concept of a justice team is a little beyond them. In the meantime, they loved the graphics and it will not be too long before they can read the story for themselves. For now, they are happy to look through the book and discuss the pictures together (and with anyone else who will sit down with them and share).

I was so happy to have won this book. It gives a brief description of all of the Avengers, telling you there real name and what super abilities they possess. It also talks about S.H.I.E.L.D. and Nick Fury which is rather funny, considering been watching on TV.

My husband is he biggest nerd you will ever meet and owns Superhero figurines and both of my girls have been told, since a young age all about these mythical beings. My eldest loves all of the girl characters so was really excited when she got to read about Natasha Ramanoff aka Black Widow. She actually stopped reading to tell me everything that she knew, which blew me away cause I know nothing.

It is a Ready to Read Level 2 and with my help she managed to read the whole book. The sentences are very small and the page does not contain much. We managed to read this in one night without to much hassle. She only started school this year and her reading is coming along so fast. I find reading books like this is helping so much.

The price is fantastic at $6 and they really are very informative. The pictures are very comic bookish but are still really well done. Recommend to any new readers out there. I actually learnt a couple of things from it as well.

My daughter is really getting into superheroes and she has a special place in her heart for Iron Man, and Hulk. This book is a nice and glossy Marvel reader aimed at kids starting to read independently. Although my daughter is not the most confident reader, I thought that this would b a good exercise for her and that she would be motivated to help me read in order to find out what happens in the book.

We sat down tonight and asked her to read mainly the sight words she already knows. She found some of the words she knew quite well, still a bit difficult. I wondered if it was the font perhaps or the shaded image behind the text. But I think she was just tired.

The sentences in this are short and simple enough. There are a few difficult words to challenge a new reader with, but they are things in the Marvel universe or character names so hard to substitute. I liked the overview of each Avenger in this book, though I was a bit disappointed there wasn't as much about the Black Widow. I'd like my daughter to see what great strong women there are in the Marvel Universe as well. I'm looking forward to the other readers in this series.
