I had seen the trailers for this movie several times and was interested in seeing it, but not on the big screen. This is based upon a family during the Boxing Day tsunami and it is so strange to think that this was ten years ago, which reminds me just how fast time can fly but of course for those involved it will still be affecting them today, I recall all the news coverage but also concern for friends who had family living near/in the affected areas and some of their stories were amazing. This movie follows the story of one family, a husband, wife and their three sons, the mother and one son together separated from the husband and other two sons.

This is an amazing story of survival and shows what people went through and how they had to cope and what they needed to do to survive. I found it amazing that the father would leave his two children with strangers but I could see the side of it where you just want to find the rest of your family and keep who you can as safe as you can. I really tried not to cry at parts of this film, it really does tug on the heart strings, about the only thing that got to me in a negative way was that they picked a family in which everyone survived when so many families lost someone, other than that this was a great movie.

This is one of those movies where you think 'omg what if that happened to me?'. Considering this could happen to anyone who happens to be near an ocean it is really freaky to watch. A family on holiday in Thailand become the victims to a Tsunami that killed over 230,000 people. This is the true story based on one family's experience.

I had heard of this movie and could not wait to see it. I knew what was going to happen and I am not sure what I was expecting to see or feel but after the first wave hit the family I wanted to turn the movie off. I didn't know whether to cry or to run downstairs and hold my babies. It is so emotionally powerful that I had a tear in my eye for most of it. Watching parents go through this not knowing if each other was alive or dead or where their children are is one of the most disturbing things to witness.

Naomi Watts is exceptional in this role and you actually forget who she is and what she has done in the past you are just transfixed on her journey. When Ewan McGregor made that phone call I forgot all about Christian from Moulin Rouge.

A question did arise between my husband and myself - Ewan ends up leaving two of his children alone with strangers while he goes to find his wife and other son. I asked my husband what he would do in that situation and he surprisingly said the same. I could not ever imagine leaving my babies alone. We both pray we never have to find out. I was an absolute mess by the end of the movie. Worthwhile seeing.

Directed by Marc Lawrence

Product image for The RewriteOnce upon a time Keith Michaels (Hugh Grant) was an award-winning Hollywood screenwriter, but divorce and a string of unsuccessful films have left him with nothing but bad debts and blank pages. So when his agent arranges a job as a guest screenwriting professor at a remote university in upstate New York, a desperate Keith can't say no.

Initially hoping to give minimal effort to actual teaching so he can focus on his next script, ... more...
