Presented by design expert Kevin McCloud, Grand Designs charts the in-depth process of ambitious design projects, from the initial detail of blueprints, to the long and often gruelling task of turning the designs into a practical living space. In this DVD Kevin returns to see how past projects have developed and ask the question was it all worth it?

When I showed my husband this DVD he grabbed it and squeaked excitedly. Kevin McCloud is a bit of a celeb in our house. We first started watching Grand Designs on Sky, and then discovered a few other shows he had presented on different design aspects through history. We also loved watching his Man Made Shed go up in the forest.
So it didn't take any arm twisting to get an evening or two of watching this DVD. There are two disks and on each is a selection of re-visits of different builds. Each episode is pretty formulaic. Take a couple with a broken down shack on a piece of land or a piece of empty space. Insert a budget to be blown, consents to be gained and go for gold. Then re-visit the house after a year or two to see how the couple are getting on.
The houses were all quite different, and the couples had some different issues. The language barrier ones were really interesting, because that was an extra level of challenge. I enjoyed watching this thoroughly and this would make quite a nice DVD gift for Christmas for any Grand Designs fan. The only negative was, I felt like for the DVD they could have possibly gone and re-visited the couples again. But at least one of the episodes was from 1998, so it might not have been practical.
