We were introduced to fly guy via the Duffy books in home program at my daughters school. Via the program choldren choose three books from a list and then they are given two from that list. Theres always a fantastic selection of books to choose fron, listed in catagories of age, boy or girl and so forth. So you can imagine my surprise when my daughter chose Fly guy sharks and a book on sharks over her normal selections about fairies or girly things.

So what an unusual yet surprisingly funny, although kind of weird this series of books are; about a boy and his pet, which happens to be.. a fly! A somewhat weird and random thing to write a story about and yet miss 6 (at the time) loved the story. She loved that it involved a fly that seemed to understand the boy. She loves the wackiness of it all. She loved that it was different to most books she reads. She loves the crazy art work. And she especially loves that she can read it alone. Its a simple style of writing, yet adventurous and fun.

I enjoy reading the fly guy series with her, I love seeing her smiling and giggling and being enthralled by the stories she reads. I don't however love that these kind of stories generally lead to her wanting something from the story...in this case..a pet fly ***eeekkk*** However so far I seem to have her happy in just liking the swries, and at $10 a book ya can't go wrong really :)

I hadn't known quite what to expect from the cover of this book having never read any Fly Guy books previously. That will now change I am sure a s this book was brilliant. Miss Six has been studying sharks at school as part of the ocean theme and endangered animals/fish etc her class are covering so I thought that this would be interesting for her. I was right in that respect but also that Miss Two and Miss Five also love this book.

Buzz and his pet Fly Guy visit the aquarium (they are colour illustrated drawings) where they learn an awful lot about lots of different sharks. All the sharks are actual photos and there is a lot of interesting information in the book. We all learnt a lot and I loved how the information was presented in a way that was easy to understand but also gave accurate and useful information.

This is a "reading level" book so is graded at reading level grade 3. I liked that this is graded and part of a reading level series as it means that your child can be learning factual information but at a level appropriate tho their reading age. www.scholastic.com/readinglevel

This is a must get book and I will definitely be looking out for more in the series.

We got introduced to Fly Guy at the local library recently. It was a small book in the early reader section. Of all the readers we got out that time, it was the one that my daughter most loved. She loved that the boy, Buzz, has a pet fly. She loved the story and the friendship between the characters and how it got a little mucky. So when I saw this Fly Guy book about sharks I knew we'd be onto a winner.

My daughter prefers non-fiction over fiction for books. She loves to learn about animals. Water creatures are a special interest. This book tells you all about sharks, but in a way that is easy to read and easy to engage with. Fly Guy and his friend head to an aquarium and we start to learn about sharks. There is life cycle information, eating and habitat information too.

I didn't know a lot about sharks, though from documentaries I knew their eggs and general life cycle information. I had read about the Whale Shark before as well. However, I didn't know their skin was rough like sandpaper. So even I learnt something totally new to me. My daughter liked the book, the photos were awesome and she was able to read some of it herself. The front of the book has hologram titling too which was cool. For $10, this is a great little book and one that will get re-read again and again here.
