She names her new 'pet' Stitch, completely unaware that he is a dangerous genetic experiment who has escaped from an alien planet. Stitch's only interest in Lilo is using her as a human shield to evade the alien bounty hunters who are bent on recapturing him.
In the end, it is Lilo's unwavering faith in 'ohana', the Hawaiian tradition of family, which unlocks Stitch's heart and gives him the one thing he was never designed to have - the ability to care for someone else.

I can never get enough of this movie. Stich and Lilo are two of my favourite cartoon characters, ever.
It's such a sweet story, and a good lesson, that family is always the most important, but also that family can be anywhere, sometimes were you least expect it.
I love that Lilo is the outcast, but that she never gives up, always trying to make friends. I love that she's not your typical little girl, but also that she doesn't care. You can see that it saddens her that the other girls don't like her, but she stays true to who she is, and she accepts Stitch, even though he quite clearly isn't your average dog. It brought in some great characters, and even spawned a TV series.
I loved the additions that came with the DVD, I love to re-watch the movie trailers where he hijacks another movie ie. Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid. It also has a clip of Stitch through the ages, and how he had for years tried to get his own movie.
A firm favourite here.
Stitch is a wonderful character... inventive, adaptive, intelligent and cunning, powerful and ruthless, uncompromising in his determination to reach his set goal. Mix into that a naivity borne of a total inability to comprehend anything non-violent or altruistic... and you have the wierdest critter you ever saw.
With a reputation for being utterly indestructable being put to the test at every opportunity, Stitch somehow manages to struggle through the events that just jump up around him... after all, if you can deal with a blue dog that terrifies other dogs just by being within 20 feet of them, why not accept that it can dress up and play the guitar like Elvis.
With a great feeling to it, Lilo & Stitch carries an inspirational as well... never give up, family is all-important.
Overall, I loved this movie, full of comedy and laughter, love and thoughtful moments. My 4 1/2 year old son also loved it, demanding a second screening. :) That's a pretty wide age gap, so I must admit it has appeal to all ages. And the appeal is quite justified. :)
