Ella And Olivia - 8 - Cool Kitties product reviews

My Miss Six has commandeered all of the Ella and Olivia books that we have so far however Miss Five is a big kitten fan so it was to be expected that this title would appeal to her. This particular book, despite being in Miss Six's bookcase, has every evening been smuggled into Miss Five's bed. She really enjoys looking at the pictures and is starting to be able to distinguish a few words. At the standard 60 odd pages for books in this series they are great for the emergent reader as every page has a black and white picture and the storylines are very simple and all have a good little moral/value thread through them.

I really like with these books that I can read them to the girls in one sitting and for Miss Five and Miss Six the books often have dilemmas that we can relate to. They are good for the girls to learn strategies to deal with different issues. With the Cool Kitties Ella and Olivia realise it is better to work together to have a great collection of Cool Kitties and this is a good demonstration of sharing, working together and sisterhood. Books like this are just invaluable in providing tools for my girls to deal with everyday playground issues.

I really like this book as do Miss Six and Miss Five and I imagine we are going to be reading it for many more evenings to come! I would definitely recommend this especially if your child has any tendency towards collecting!

Ella and Olivia is a series of chapter books for new readers. They are probably most suitable for 5 - 7 year olds. The series itself is about Ella and Olivia, who are sisters and their relationship as well as their family. The sentences are simple, the font is large and there are 5 chapters per book.

This book was the first to be selected by my daughter to be read from our lovely pile of books. I was surprised this one was selected first, but I was interested to see how it went. We have read two other books in the series, and my daughter does seem to identify well with the books. I also find that I identify with the parents. They always seem to say and do things that I would say as well. Rightly or wrongly!

In this one, Olivia and Ella are crazy for a type of toy called Cool Kitties. My daughter immediately identified with the girls and their love of these toys. While it is fictional, my daughter loves and collects Littlest Pet Shop which are a similar thing. The girls in the book are working hard for pocket money to earn more toys. This has inspired my daughter to do some housework and to try to be better behaved at school. We will see where that goes, but she is excited at the idea of being able to earn new toys at least.

Meanwhile I identified with the parents who were quite sick of the toys being everywhere and the way the girls started to act towards each other out of jealousy. The outcome was pretty cool, and helped us think about what we would do too. It was a good quick read, which was highly entertaining.
