This is a great sized colourful and reasonably priced book aimed at young boys. The name "Spidey" is used in reference to Spiderman and this gives the book a less fierce nature in my opinion.

The book layout is fantastic, it uses a couple of different fonts for different areas. The picture layout is well constructed with a standard picture book scene, then a comic like square and at times a note page or diagram, the layout is consistent for little readers, but also varied enough to keep it interesting.

The book touches on "Uncle Ben's death" which I felt was un-needed and just added a concept that the book doesn't deal with in any other manner. Spiderman is a pretty decent role model for young children, but in a very unrealistic manner.

My son loved this book and he "loves" the idea of Spiderman, but I'm unsure if its because the can dress up like him at day-care in the suit - so that is the hook into the book for him, or if he follows and understands the storyline.

The book ends rather abruptly, and this is difficult when reading at bedtime as my son wanted to read the next book, but they are quiet a long story to get through.

America at the end of the 21st century: 17-year-old James doesn't even know what his real name is, though he feels if someone uses it one day, he'll know it's his. Kindness to others is not an option at Goodhouse, a brutally run corrective school for boys with criminal genes.
