Product reviews...
I purchased this product to use on some cupcakes for a baby shower,It seemed like such a great idea as it was a squeeze tube with a fine pointed nozzle. The white fudge icing tube I had brought was very oily when it was first opened and it did not write well at all it keep breaking or dropping bits of oil over the cake. I contacted Queen and they sent out a replacement they had advised that the tube I had previously tried to use had most likely been subjected to heat and had caused it to split.I Had much better luck with the next tube it came out smoothly and was very easy to write with the flavour was also good has a nice chocolate taste without being too sweet and overpowering the icing already on the cake.
I found I had quite a bit left over so it has been used to add lollies to gingerbread men and also I have used it to simply decorate cakes like the picture I have added. This product is also great for the kids as they can easily decorate cookies without much mess. I would however recommend to practise writing on some baking paper before you try it out on your cakes as it's something that always looks easier than it is.At the price of around $6 its great to keep on hand when you need to make your baking look special it also keeps well ready for the next use and the more you use it the easier it becomes.
I had been eyeing up this product at the supermarket for awhile but just hadn't had a "project" to buy it for until recently. Needing to make our first birthday cake for work we grabbed a tube of the chocolate flavour in the hope of a easy way to do decorative writing. We weren't disappointed at all!!
Initially I had thought this product was a tad on the expensive side but after using it and seeing how long it would last I would happily pay for it again! I really liked the tube design and how easy it was to squeeze the product out. I also liked the size of the line it produced - it was fairly thin but perfect for what we wanted. We had covered out cake with fondant icing and then used this product to write happy birthday on the fondant. I did have a brief worry that it was going to react with the fondant as I've seen that happen before but this definitely wasn't an issue.
I was also really happy with the taste of this product - it didn't taste fake or overly sweet. In fact it could have easily passed as an icing I'd made myself! This is definitely a product I recommend to others - as an amateur at making cakes it certainly made my job easier and look more professional!
I got a pack of the Queen's Writing fudge a while ago. I was going through a big cake and cupcake making time and decorating them was part of the magic. The writing fudge was something a bit different, compared to other writing icing I had in the cupboard. My daughter really likes chocolate so the rich chocolate writing fudge is what we opted for.
I used this recently on a couple of cakes. The first cake I made was a butterfly. As the butterfly was rainbow coloured, I decided to use this rich chocolate fudge icing to make the shapes and outlines my daughter requested. I drew on a couple of hearts and circles or spots. I also added the number 6 to both wings and drew the face and legs of the butterfly onto the cake. I found the fudge was quite hard to work with, and took a while to come out of the tube. It needed to be handled and warmed to work. Once it was flowing, it was fine.
Once I gave the icing a chance to sit and set, I added some glad-wrap to the top. In the morning when I got up, I found that the glad-wrap had shifted slightly and all the fudge icing had moved with it. That was a bit disappointing for my daughter, who said it was a nice looking cake except that she wished that the butterfly had legs, and a face and that the hearts didn't look so odd.
The other cake I did was a ladybug with a chocolate smile. That stayed on and was quite cute except the fudge icing didn't stick too well to the buttercream I made so it looped a bit at one end. I also used it to write my daughter's name on the cake board. That came out quite nice, but again I had to warm the icing first before it would flow nicely. Overall, an okay product but Queen has other writing icing which is more reliable.
Perfect!! That is all that needs to be said about this product...PERFECT!! But a short review isn't a good review so I will continue to rave about this fabulous writing fudge. It comes in it's own tube with a super fine nozzle to ensure a skinny trail of writing on any cake or to ice biscuits or just basically whatever you are wanting to be decorated.
The tube is easy to squeeze and allows the user to determine how much fudge they want to apply, so if you only want a small skinny amount squeeze slightly and if you are after a thicker application squeeze harder to get more to come out....and it tastes good too boot so you can't go wrong using it.
It's gluten free which is a bonus, easy to use, and comes out smooth. I just wish it was a bigger tube, but it does last a little while and I have used 1 tube on several cakes, decorated cupcakes and christmas cookies so it is pretty versatile and it will happily stick to any surface....in top of icing, straight onto the biscuit or even onto the cake board if the cakes I have made are already decorated with something else.
It comes in many different flavours and colours but unfortunately it is only available in white chocolate and milk chocolate at my supermarket...it would be great for more of a selection but I can access them online, but it would be great and more convenient if they were at my supermarket.
A good product that I will definitely continue to buy and I always make sure I have a tube of each colour in my baking draw.
I originally bought this for writing a name on a birthday cake. It is so great for writing on the top of cakes as the little squeeze tube with the fine point nozzle makes it easy for forming letters. The icing comes out evenly when you squirt the tube so you can get nice tidy lettering that looks professional on the cakes.
Seen as the tube I bought wasn't all used up from writing on the cake I have found other things to use it for. I have used it on top of cupcakes for sticking on little pebbles or drawing smiley faces. Tonight I used it to draw the faces on spice biscuits and stick on buttons on their bodies. It worked really well as when the icing sets it sets the sprinkles on really well and they don't come back off again.
The fudge itself tastes really nice, you can get it in white chocolate or rich chocolate and both taste really nice. The white chocolate one which you can see I have used in the picture has a real sweet white chocolate taste with a hint of vanilla. The texture is like a smooth chocolate more than an icing so it is a really nice tasting topping. The tube is 50 grams so it lasts quite well and I have easily been able to use it for the cake the biscuits and some cupcakes and still have some left in the tube so it works out to be good value for money and makes decorating things like gingerbread men quick and easy.
