I am an early childhood teacher and have recently started a job at a new centre. During my first singing sessions with the children Mr Clickety Clay was one of their favourites and requested each session. Obviously the name has been changed a little (Clay rather than Cane) but the song was very similar. When I arrived at centre with this book the children were so excited. They raced to the mat and sat so nicely while I got the CD out and popped it into the CD player. Being one of their favourite songs they waited with big smiles on their faces until it started!

As the song began they sang along. With the mention of each action they acted out the action - for instance when it says "wash your face in orange juice" they used their hands to pretend they were washing their face. They noticed that the CD sings the song quite a bit faster than we do - but this just provided them with the challenge of being able to keep up! As we kept going through the verses I got a little twisted trying to go back to the first page to show the words again, but the children didn't seem to mind. We discovered a couple of different verses (fix the fence with sticky tape and fry an egg on a slippery dip) so will have to make some actions to go along with those lines that we can teach everyone.

After "Wash Your Face" finished we continued playing the CD. Next up was Stuck in a Pizza. This song was a little harder for the children to follow along with - being unknown and not quite as catchy as Wash Your Face. The children still listened however some of their attention started to wander and this is when Spaghetti Bolognaise came on. This one captured the interest of all the children again. In fact, I noticed one boy at the back swaying along to the tune and another started to tap his knees like a drum, which other children joined in on too. It was a very catchy tune that stayed in my head as we moved off the mat and into lunch time (where one of the children did have spaghetti bolognaise for lunch, and they thought it was the coolest thing after reading the book!).

I would recommend this book to others. Being a board book it is one that can be enjoyed by the children as well as the adults. The pictures are bright and colourful which catches the attention of those reading it. The addition of the CD is great - being a teacher it is sometimes nice to give my voice a rest, but also to provide something different for the children other than listening to our voices over and over again!

Both Miss Four and Mr Six knew exactly what this book was as soon as they saw it. It seems that they have learned "Wash your Face in Orange Juice" at kindy and school. I have heard little snippets from them as well and the tune caught my attention, along with the silliness of the words. I am all for any book that gets my kids enthused, and this was one that did just that before we even opened the cover. I think that the fact it is a board book will be a huge advantage as I think the kids will want to use it over and over again.

The book comes with a CD in a sleeve at the back of the book. This was an important part of the enjoyment of the book for the kids and me. We put the CD in the laptop and we sang along to it as Mr 6 turned the pages. The book doesn't have all the repetition of the words and you need to keep flicking back to the front of the book to follow along with the song. Once I explained this to Mr Six, he found it easy enough. He knew most of the words anyway so it was easy to sing along without having all the words in front of him. Miss Four can't read yet, so she was just happy singing along to the music.

In addition to the very familiar "Wash Your Face in Orange Juice" song, there are two other songs in the book/CD. The kids hadn't heard them before and neither had I. We found the second song a bit hard to get in to. Perhaps this is because "Wash Your Face in Orange Juice" is so catchy! The second song, 'Stuck in a Pizza' was quite a different pace, some movement encouraged by the words (take a step, clap your hands, turn your head to the left....etc). The kids did like the repetition of the chorus. The third song was easier for us and similar in energy to the first song. "Spaghetti Bolognaise" has a bouncy feeling to the music again and it has lots of energy. We did find it harder to get the words in the right place but the kids kept on trying. It was good for developing good annunciation of the words and sounds.

The illustrations in the book are bright and energetic. The kids enjoyed looking at them as we sang the songs. The words and illustrations had the kids laughing the whole way through the book. It is great to see happy kids enjoying a book. While singing along, I noticed that the kids bouncing on the side of the bed as they listened and I couldn't help but bounce too!

I think that this would be a great gift for young families as I know that it would be enjoyed over and over again. I think that it is one of those board books that are loved so much they fall apart (and that is a good thing!!).

I have never heard of this book before until I was being a student in a daycare centre, they had this as mat time. It was very funny and interesting to say the least, but the kids really love it and the adults get right into it as well.

What I love is there are 3 songs in the book and it comes with a CD the words are fun to say and lots of fun with actions. The pictures are awesome, nice and bright. Washing yourself in orange juice is just one of the funny sentences that come out of this book there is also things like brush your teeth with bubblegum no wonder why its a fav on children.

Its a soft cover book and a pocket to hold the CD in, the pages are nice and thick so while singing you can have the book open for the children to turn the page or an adult can turn the pages. If you want some fun and enjoyment with singing and reading at the same time give this book and CD a go. Kids will go crazy with it :)

So many childrens books are coming out with an added bonus of a CD, and Peter Coombes, Wash your face with orange juice and other silly songs has to be one of the better book and CD combos available. My only complaint would be there is so much potential in this song book for more, rather than it being limited to the 3 songs, but in my daughters eyes, those 3 songs are just the best.

Peter Coombes has been amusing and delighting children with his funny lyrics for many years. The classic wash your face with orange juice is my daughters favorite song in this book, and it is easy to see why, with its catchy tune and super funny lyrics, whats not to love.

The book is bright, vibrant, easy to read and with the CD added in, it is just so much fun. We recommend you get your hands on this book and CD. With its vibrant colours and bold design it makes a great gift for little lovers of music and books, and is suited for ages 3+ but would be enjoyed by all ages in my opinion.
