My daughter was given a laugh and learn lantern when she was a baby for her first christmas. I wasnt sure at first if she would like it or not at the start but she definitely took to it. She learnt really fast that if she hit the button on top or rolled the roller at the bottom it would make a sound. This became one of our favourite learning toys. It has songs like twinkle twinkle little star and then move the switch over and you have learning options like the alphabet. It lights up when the button is pushed which really caught my daughters attention and she loved turning it on and off.
One thing I found was that while younger she would try to carry it and would have difficulty. As she grew this became easier and she was also able to change modes herself. She would often take it to her room at night and turn on the light as a night light. It would turn itself off after a short while. This toy lasted the test of time and at 4 and a half years on she has just parted ways with it and hopefully given another young child as much fun as she had. It's a bright and cheerful toy which gave my daughter hours of fun and learning. I would definitely purchase this toy for a younger child.
My son received this as a gift for Christmas and it is one of his favourite toys that he can use for both playtime and bedtime. It has a night mode and a soothing night light so he can take it in his cot for sleep time and a day mode for play and learning.
The day modes have lots of learning songs such as numbers and counting so it has some educational value and the songs are really appealing. Cai plays them over and over again as one stops he will push the button to play the next song and the lantern lights up in pattern with the music. TI has a handle so he can carry it around the house with him but it is quite heavy so he doesn't carry it very far at this stage.
The night mode is really great too it has soft music and night time sound effects with a light. I let Cai take it to bed and he plays the music while he is going off to sleep. His favourite song is twinkle, twinkle so he pushes the button over and over again until he gets to the right song. The one thing I thought would be good is if you could attach it to the side of the cot. It worries me that a heavy plastic toy is in bed with him and could fall over on him or he could roll over on top of it, but other than that a good bed time toy.
