I absolutely hate going to the dentist. I'm a big sook. A month or two back, I woke up in the night with an awful pain. I knew my top left wisdom tooth needed some work. But I was ignoring it, hoping it would be okay until I was back at work at least. The pain was so bad that painkillers didn't even touch it, and I ended up awake from 2am til the rest of the family appeared in the morning. While I was awake I looked into dentists in the area and came across City Smile Dental. I saw that they offered emergency appointments, but I was concerned about the cost still, so I rang at 7am and made a normal appointment.

I was really impressed that they were able to see me the same day. I was also impressed that the dentist who answered my call was not in the office. I called too early and got him at home. Still he was friendly, and he asked a few questions and had a good idea of what I needed right away. He was sure he had a space free in his day for me, even though he didn't have his appointment book with him. Later once I had organised my family so I could go to my appointment, we went to the Victoria Street clinic. The receptionist was friendly and confirmed my details with me.

The wait in the waiting room was short. I don't think I got through more than a page of my magazine. Then I went into the procedure room. Everything was clean, and I liked that they had TV shows going above your head so you could watch that rather than think about what he was doing. That is a good distraction for kids as well. The nurse was friendly and the dentist was clear with me about what I wanted to happen and what he would do. I mentioned I was afraid and he was very reassuring. The nurse asked if I wanted to hold her hand as well. I did feel a little silly. In the end the procedure (removing my wisdom tooth) was over within 10 minutes. It all happened so quickly! I was given a list of dos and don'ts for the week, and given a prescription for some medicine as well.

The best thing about the whole experience was the invoice at the end. Being on a limited budget at the time, I was really worried about it. The last time I had a wisdom tooth extracted it cost me over $300. Imagine my delight when the invoice was less than $200. As much as I hate going to the dentist, this is one place I would return to in future.
