Musical family comedy set in 12th-century England, starring Danny Kaye as a court jester who becomes involved with outlaws trying to overthrow the king. In between singing, dancing and clowning, he still finds time to joust with knights, duel with swordsmen and rescue damsels in distress.

I LOVE this movie. This is a fantastic film.
Danny Kaye plays Hawkins, a man who used to work in the circus but he decided to join the rebels. Sadly for him, he is not the best at wielding a sword and so he ends up as the babysitter. But when he and Maid Jean (Glynis Johns) need to leave the forest with the royal baby, they encounter the Kings new jester.
Hawkins is set to impersonate the new jester, Giacomo, and heads to the castle to infiltrate it and gain the key to the secret tunnel so that those loyal to the royal baby can attack the castle and restore the kingdom to the rightful hands. What Hawkins doesn't realise is that he has impersonated a world renowned assassin. Add to this love, a witch and a spell and hilarity ensues.
This movie has a total of 7 songs in it, and all fit the film perfectly. The comedy is great, over 50 years on and it is still a lovely, funny movie with some great scenes. The best thing about it, is that it is suitable for my children with it's G rating, and it has something in it for the whole family. It is number 98 in the AFI's 100 Years...100 Laughs as unveiled in 2000.
This really is a fun movie, that I think everyone should watch at least once in their life. I own it on DVD and it is one of the most watched movies in our collection.
