The portable B- Safe Emergency Power Pack is a 4 function emergency/safety device, providing a radio, a mobile phone charger, two LED torch power options, and an emergency alarm. The internal battery is recharged by a hand cranked dynamo, which means that it is always ready to go, and no batteries are required.

My sister bought her husband a B-Safe Emergency Power pack for Christmas last year. They thought it was such a useful thing to have that they gave us one this year. My parent-in-laws also own one and think it is essential for a survival kit and had suggested (in the not so subtle way parents advise) that we should have one. Thankfully we are not in an area affected by the Canterbury earthquakes but seeing the damage on the news really made us think about how ill prepared we were for such an event. The emergency power pack had so many things we needed.
We don't own a battery operated radio so in a power cut we would need to sit in the car, and hopefully not flatten the car battery, to get essential information from Civil Defence. This gadget has an aerial but we were able to listen clearly to the radio without it. It only had to crank the dynamo for a minute to listen to it through to the next ad break.
The torch was great with one LED but much more powerful with all three LEDs. My four year old loved powering up the torch and playing with it in the darkened hallway. I found it in her bed tonight. I think she had plans of playing with it all night. I don't think I would want to sit and read with this torch but it would be great to find my way round a dark house.
Having a dynamo torch and radio makes this good value for money but with the additional features of a personal alarm (which my girls discovered was very loud and piercing) and a mobile phone charger makes it a very worthwhile investment. It comes with an adapter to charge your phone but if you need a different one you can request one free. if you need another further down the track when you update your phone these are available for purchase on line.
Also included in the pack were headphones and a tiny keyring torch. These were a bonus. The only thing I would have liked to see on this handy gadget was a space to store the phone cable and headphones. I am considering buying a couple more of these so we can keep one one in the glovebox of each car. It would be great to know there is a working torch (no flat or corroded batteries) when needed. I hope I am never in situation where I need to use all the features of this tool but I will be very grateful to have it.
