Product reviews...
Jelly Belly Bean Boozled aren't so much a treat as an experience and a sometimes revolting experience too! They made an excellent Christmas gift for my six-year-old son who delighted in challenging me to try the different flavours. I could not understand why anyone would willingly want to try eating a barf-flavoured jellybean but it's that mix of apprehension and anticipation which makes it fun I guess. When you survive and instead bite into a peach-flavoured jellybean it somehow tastes even better!
When I bought these, they came in a collectable Special Minion edition tin container with a spinning wheel on top. It was a great idea to link the Minions with the product given that they enjoy causing mayhem... You gave the wheel a spin, found the jellybean that matched the picture and psyched yourself up to eat it. You really don't sit in front of the TV snacking on these. You need a rubbish bin to spit in and something to take the taste away if you bite into the weird flavours. Do not be fooled, they really do taste awful. Great entertainment for kids watching the expression on the face of the poor person eating it.
Some flavours differed from above: Green apple or Minion Fart - Tutti Frutti or Stinky Socks - Strawberry Banana Smoothie or Dead Fish. There really is no way to tell what the flavour is until you take a big bite into it. I think these would be magic at kids' birthday parties or as a joke birthday present. Just don't buy them for me!
Jelly Bean BeanBoozled love this product, Has been a mega hit in this house. What turned into a wee challenge for kids then turned into us going to the supermarket and buying all that were there so we could give these out in gifts. Kids slowly got used to the flavours, some being strong, some being bearable, and some being out right gross. The kids all had their favourites. Boogers, grass and toothpaste were the big hits with Canned Dog Food and Barf being the least liked flavours. Baby wipes personally I didn't like to flowery for my tastes.
We have put these in a practical joke items in birthday presents parcels, and have turned a couple of the children's friends, and also a handful of parents going out and buying as well with the same mind set as us on how to us them.
Only two down falls apart from the baby wipes flavour. One that they are hard to come by in our town, only ever found them at supermarkets, have heard you can buy on line but would prefer to have them in our town so I can put more people onto them. Two the price is a little steep just a dollar or two cheaper would work.
I got a box of these as a secret santa gift last year, we love the jelly belly beans and visit the shop at the luge in Rotorua when we are in the area.We had a few people over for new years so decided it was a great time to try out the gift.We were all a bit scared to try as it's like playing russian roulette with food you don't know if you are going to get dog food or popcorn flavoured.
The instructions to the game were easy to understand and the variety of different flavours good. We ended up with about half nice flavoured and half gross flavoured. We did like the fact that they were a smaller jelly bean than the supermarket kind so when you got a gross flavour it wasn't so hard to swallow.
Most of us found all of the flavours to be ok taste wise some couldn't tell if they had a bad or good one but then some of us could really tell like the dog food one gross! we will definitely look at getting this product again it's a great talking point and ice breaker and would go well at a kids or teenagers party and the price is definity worth the laugh factor.
I love Jelly Belly jelly beans well most of them anyway the BeanBoozled ones are a whole different story. Yet while the flavours are gross I can't help myself when there's a round on BeanBoozled going on I just have to join in! It's so much fun taking a risk crossing your fingers and hoping you get one of the nice flavours!
I discovered BeanBoozled last Christmas when they made an appearance at our staff Christmas party. You can just imagine the giggles as the box made the rounds and everyone took a taste. Watching peoples expressions as the bite into a bad flavour provides entertainment to everyone around! As the night went on and the drinks flowed the reactions were even funnier.
I've also played the game with a group of children aged 3-16 and I think that is even funnier than adults giving it a try. While most adults just spit the beans out I found the kids trying their hardest not to show their disgust as they bit into a bad flavour. Nothing like trying to play it cool while chewing on something that tastes like dog food or barf.
I would recommend a packet at any family event or birthday party it really will provide the entertainment, they make awesome secret santa presents as well.
Although these are jellybeans Jelly Belly Bean Boozled are not what you sit down to eat when you want a sweet treat. They are more of a novelty item. It is best done with a group of people with or without alcohol. It is like playing Russian roulette with food. You don't know whether you are going to get a sweet treat or something unwanted.
The weird flavours aren't really too weird. I managed to eat a booger jellybean without nausea. It does help that they are gourmet sized so there is not a lot of bean. I do feel sorry for the people that had to taste all the weird flavours while developing bean boozled. How many people know what pencil shavings or centipede taste like apart from toddlers?
My box had roughly a third weird flavours and the rest were the lovely Jelly Belly beans. It is hard to know as when I gave it to the children they all said it was yum but maybe that is just because jellybeans are meant to be a yum.
My advice is take these to a party as it will be a real talking point. If you aren't very adventurous chose a blue bean because if you luck out you will only have a toothpaste flavoured bean to swallow.
