Freya's Sandwich Thins are a tasty and healthy new thin-style bread option for those who find bread too filling, with 40% less carbohydrates per serve compared to two slices of Freya's sandwich bread*.

This innovative new bread format is unique to New Zealand, and was developed based on extensive research highlighting that New Zealand consumers are actively seeking products that are not too filling, and searching for ways to reduce their carbohydrate intake**.

Freya's Sandwich Thins are available in four great tasting variants: Mixed Grain, Soy Linseed, Wholemeal and High Fibre White. With 6 pre-sliced Sandwich Thins per pack, this is a healthy and versatile range perfect for creating delicious cafe style sandwiches.

The new Freya's Sandwich Thins range is available in all good supermarkets, RRP $4.49.

These looked like a fantastic new product that I just had to try when I saw them at my local supermarket, I love bread and carbs but had been trying to cut down the amount that I eat, so when I saw these Freya's Sandwich Thins I knew they may be my answer, after all the packet did say they had 40% less carbs per serve than the average Freya's sandwich bread (which I love). The thins were available in four different flavours so the hardest part for me was deciding which one's I was going to try Mixed Grain, Soy Linseed, Wholemeal or High Fibre White. I couldn't decide between the High Fibre White and the Mixed Grain so got both.

I tried these out for lunch the next day (the Multi Grain) as a toasted sandwich filled with cheese, ham and mustard. They crisped up amazingly in the toasted sandwich maker and as they are a lot thinner that a slice of bread they cooked in half the time, best of all it tasted amazing. I decided the next day was time to give the White variety a go to so how they compared and I have to say they tasted just as good as the Mixed Grain this time I kept the thins fresh and cut them in half and filled them up with lettuce, tomato, avocado, cheese and shredded chicken which was super yummy. I've even used these as a pizza base, and also as a side to pasta and soup and they have gone very nicely with all.

They are pricier than an average loaf of bread, especially considering that you only get 6 serves out of a packet but are good if you are watching your weight and carbohydrate intake. I have been looking for these recently at my local supermarkets but haven't been able to source them so am wondering if perhaps they have been taken off the market, to me this seems a shame I loved eating my guilt free bread.

It was burger night the other night in our house, but guess what! I think Thursday night was burger night in half of the Dunedin population as there were no traces left of any burger buns at 5.30pm at the local supermarket. I picked these up as a substitute and wondered how the family would take to them - they looked like my cuppa tea!

When i opened the pack which was like a bread bag and inside this they were repackaged in another bag which was sealed like a pita packet, a little bit over the top and a waste of plastic in my opinion. Upon opening the second packet which was sealed there were the 6 little sandwich buns. They were very thin and my panic set in to how i was going to feed my always hungry partner.

I cooked some char-grilled chicken patties and added in lettuce, cucumber, tomato, brie mayo and pesto (all fat free of course!!!!!) They held together well, and they tasted great! I loved that my burger tasted of the food inside the buns rather than getting mouthfuls of bread like in a normal burger bun. On top of this, both my sons ate these up

The next day for lunch i toasted the left over ones and added salad veges and ham and took for my lunch, the bread stayed nice and fresh and not soggy. The bread itself as it was the white one didn't have a lot of taste itself but its an awesome 'holder' of all the tasty fillings and endless possibilities you could put in these.

I definitely would buy these again, my partner enjoyed his burger, but said that he preferred 'normal' buns for his burger (typical male!!) but for me this was an awesome alternative to a carb loaded dinner/lunch.
