I do not know how many times my daughter has made me read her great galloping galoot, or how many times she has made me sit while she reads it to me. But one thing I do know for sure, it is worth reading, and no matter how many times I have read it or been read it, each time is still as funny as the first. Great galloping galoot is a humourous book about a glumsy giraffe.
My daughter received it from Duffy books in schools. A wonderful programmd that gives kids free books a few times a year, through their school. Until my daughter was gifted this book I had not heard of it. I love it when sge gets given new books and have never been dissapointed in any of them yet. They have all been fantastic books that are always enjoyable to read.
like all the others, we love great galloping galoot. It is a fun book, made even more fun if you add funny voices to the different animals featured in the book. It has a great ending too, which is awesome especially when it us something kids can relate too. My daughter is rathed glumsy so she loved reading this one and enjoyed the happy positive ending. Plus like I said before, it is a fun read. I possibly would not have bought it off the shelf at the rrp myself though to be honest, unless I had already heard about it. The pictures are bright and funny also and it definitely appeals to the younger readers. Definitely one of our favourites.
What an absolutely gorgeous book...Great Galloping Galoot was such fun to open up and see the brilliant, vibrant, cartoon like characters within the pages. I instantly fell in love with the cuteness of the animals, and what a terrific topic to base a child's book on, with a softened approach of the other animals not believing in Galoot, but Galoot believing in himself to get the job done. Such a great role model is Galoot to all young children. Keep believing in yourself!!
Even with Galoot being clumsy and always getting things wrong, tripping over and falling down he always stayed positive and remembered the loving words of his parents, which were repeated throughout the book allowing the children to read along whenever that paragraph comes up within the book. Having a sentence that is repeated throughout any child's book is great as it helps keep the children focused and listening for their part within the story to come up.
The bright pages within the book are great for keeping the children interested in and looking at the book and using animals which children adore is a great choice. It was good to learn that the author is a kiwi, always a bonus when looking for books...buy New Zealand made products!! The text in the book is bold and very easy to read, the Great Galloping Galoot uses small sentences, so the children aren't sitting for too long and getting bored, the reader can flip the page onto a new one.
I loved this book and I got a great response from the children when I read it to them, they wanted me to read it again at mat time. Since we had no time it was put up the children ate morning tea and straight after they had eaten it was asked for again straight away, and again the children sat and listened to the book in their own free play time!! Goes to show how great the book was!!
I totally recommend this book, if you or your child loves animals, loves bright pictures and want New Zealand made then this book is for you!
This is a fanastic book and the group of children (approx 10 of them aged between 2-4) that i read it to today totally loved it! I was lucky enough to win this but would totally spend the money to buy it all over again, either for myself or as a gift.
There is just something about giraffes and this book is no different! Galoot the giraffe is very clumsy and everyone expects he cant help, luckily though his parents have given him a saying which is repeated throughout the book ... "When walking, walk tall, When running, run fast, Always do your best". All of the children were repeating this sentence (or trying to by the end of the book).
I love that it is written and illustrated by a New Zealander, the illustrations are definately eye catchy and had all the children capivated, totally engaged in the book. This reminded me a lot of the book "Giraffe's cant dance" and in my mind this was like a follow on from that, Will definately be reading to all the children again thats for sure!
Totally recommend to others :)
The Great Galloping Galoot appeals to me on so many levels as a home-based educarer, a former primary school teacher and a parent of preschoolers. Firstly, it is written and illustrated by a New Zealander but the characters and the language will have international appeal.
The beautiful bold illustrations had the children engaged in the book. The facial features on the animals expressed their emotions clearly to all the preschoolers I shared this book with. My two year old loved pointing out the smaller animals in each picture. The older ones thought it was funny how their were four giraffes on the page where he goes tumbling through the air.
As the title suggests the giraffe is very clumsy and everyone expects he can't help. Fortunately his parents have given him a mantra which is repeated several times throughout the book. "When walking, walk tall. When running, run fast. Galoot, always do your best." The children were saying this phrase along with me by the end of the book. This alone makes it a book that I will be recommending to others that work or have young children of their own.
The children love this book and it is a popular choice for both me to read to them and for when they are reading to themselves. Galoot gets 10 out of 10 from us.
Last night in order to hasten bedtime for over-tired children, I offered to read a new book to them. Great Galloping Galoot was chosen by my animal-mad 5 year old. She loved the giraffe on the front cover, saying that he looked funny and nice.
The illustrations right through the book are quite cartoon-like. They are simple, but clean and with beautiful colours. The style suits the story, because the animals play sports and do things that real animals don't do. So to me, having less realistic animal pictures worked with this.
My daughter loved the antics of the animals. There were pages where she was laughing so hard she couldn't sit up any more. And this was before I even read the page. Of course, she was in a very silly mood as well, which helped. She wanted to re-visit a couple of pages just for the pictures and to laugh some more.
The words and story was fun. Plenty of repetition for an early reader, but easy to read aloud as well. The moral behind the story is great as well. Self-belief and resilience in the face of ridicule. This giraffe comes across as a little silly at first, but is smarter than anyone gives him credit for.
I really rate this book. Its going to get thrashed at my place, where my daughter was asking this morning to have it again. Great message, fun story, great pictures. Just an awesome package!
