Mathematical Curiosities product reviews

All the colourful models, when cut out and glued together, have curious and interesting properties. Some rotate, some fold and unfold, some twist and others fit together in unexpected ways.

All illustrate mathematical ideas in an amusing and interesting fashion. Also included is a minibook which gives background information and further ideas.

It's funny how things work out. I was trying to explain Mobius Strips to a co-worker and I just couldn't get the point across without making one. As I was about to start chopping up letterheads, this book arrived for review. "HUZAH!" I said, and proceeded to chop the book up instead... since it contained *4* variations on the Mobius Strip, plus some dinky sliding labels that helped illustrate the point really well. That set the tone, I was really hooked on playing with this one. :)

Next I decided to tackle the Folding Cubes, then the Ring of Rotating tetrahedra... and as time flitted by I chopped the whole book up and made them all. What a blast!

Overall, this is a seriously fun book! The minibook gives you all the theory on each model, and in many cases a challenge or two to stretch your mind another few IQ points. I rate this one a real winner.
