When it came time for me to take responsibility of my own internet, I looked around and thought that compared to the rest Woosh would suit me best. It looked simple, easy to set up, had heard only good things and I could get it without having to have a phone number set up.
Sadly I had pretty much only bad experiences with them. Signing up was nice and easy, and didn't take long to happen either (since we had to go to them to collect our modem), but then it started to go downhill. Despite our house clearly being well and truly in the right area to pick up a strong signal for wireless, it never did. We tried it in every room in the house (except the bathroom) and even the garage, but no such luck. We called up and were told it would be just under a week before anyone could come and help and that we would be charged for the service. I said no thanks, I'd like my money back, and her attitude towards me instantly changed, and not for the better.
We drove halfway across town to return it, nice and easy as all that I needed to do was fill out a form and drop it all in a box. However, it took us numerous emails, and phone calls, and 3 weeks to get our money refunded.
Woosh ISP have been around for a while, and I joined up with them some 9 years ago. Initially they were fantastic, possibly because they were a new company, but that did not last long.
They started out as dial up, moving on quickly to broadband. The services offered were basic internet packages and standard prices. Starting back then at under $20.00. The customer support teams were always very helpful and not satisfied until any queries or problems were solved and phone calls were answered quickly and in a timely fashion. The internet service was very reliable.
Then Woosh branched out and became a more popular ISP, one of NZs largest. Their prices went up to compete with all the other ISP companies, and their customer services went down. Reliability became even worse. And they became one of the hardest companies to deal with. Over a 3 month period our internet possibly worked a maximum of about 65% of that time and our telephone line was constantly on the blink. Numerous phone calls to the call centre resulted in being on hold for almost an hour, and then when you did get to speak to someone they were less than helpful and blamed atmospheric conditions as the reasoning more often than not. They were not interested in checking equipment or helping out as to why their services were not working.
After a further four months we decided to change ISP...the result an extra $99 added to our bill for early termination of our contract. I had been with Woosh for over 9 years but swapped to one of their new plans and that is when all the problems happened. So i still had to pay full price for their services that did not happen all the time, and then got charged extra when I had had enough and left.
I always thought Woosh were a fantastic company, and am really disappointed that they have extended their services, changed their plans, updated everything... But forgotten about the little people along the way.
