Two Lovers product reviews

Leonard is an attractive but troubled young man who moves back in with his parents following a suicide attempt and encounters two women in quick succession.

The mysterious and beautiful neighbour Michelle and Sandra, the lovely and caring daughter of a businessman buying out the family's dry-cleaning business.

As the exotic but equally troubled Michelle seems poised to fall for Leonard, and his family pressures him into committing to Sandra, Leonard is forced to make an impossible decision between the impetuousness of desire and the comfort of love - or risk falling back into the darkness that nearly killed him.

Two Lovers starts off in a dark frame with Leonard (Phoenix) trying to commit suicide. Leonard is a 30yr old man who has just moved back in with his parents after another one in a series of failed attempt at suicide. The cause of his attempts at suicide are based on his failed engagement, because he has Bi-Polar. It was her parent's decision that the wedding was to be called off. Their main concern was because he had Bi-Polar then their Grandchildren have a high risk of getting it too.
Once back at home he starts helping out at his parent's dry-cleaning business. At first he meets Sandra, the daughter of the businessman wanting to buy his parents business. They hit it off together straight away, but of course he also meets Michelle. Michelle is a troubled woman who lives in the same building as him. Michelle lives the high life and of course has a wild streak in her with which Leonard is attracted to. So he begins dating them both at the same time. Sandra is the one his parents are trying to persuade Leonard to get with. As it turns out the one Leonard falls very hard for, well let's just say it's not reciprocated.
This movie kept my attention right the way through, however that may be because of Joaquin Phoenix being the lead role.
Leonard and Michelle are so similar that i feel the movie focuses on them more than Leonard and Sandra.
The movie is set with a bleak mood/frame right throughout, however i feel that it is perfect for the type of movie that is being portrayed.
I don't feel this is Joaquin's best performance, but he still portrays his character well. He really pulls you into the movie with him. I really felt his pain. I think there will be little things in this movie that you may not pick up the first time you watch it, so it will be interesting when i watch it again to see the things i missed in the first viewing.
