Product reviews...
I was in Wanganui with family for the day, and as were leaving we realised that our son was overdue for dinner, and we weren't all that far off ourselves... so we pulled over and entered The Golden Horse restaurant and takeways. With a limited budget, we ordered a scoop of chips, 2 hotdogs, 2 pieces of fish and a sausage, plus some tomato sauce.
We sat, and waited, and waited, and waited, and waited, and finally a plate arrived with a scoop of overcooked, crispy-to-the-point-of-solid chips, and two bits of fish with large amounts of salt still clinging to them. Since we had a REALLY hungry sprog, we portioned out some chips and sauce for him, and pecked at the deep-friend bits of kindling wood, and the oily-metal-tasting fish. By the time we were about to give up on the sausage and hotdogs, they arrived. Along with a visitor from outside...
This noisy moggie came wandering in, smelled out fish and decided we were a bunch of easy markers, so wouldn't leave us alone, up to the point of trying to climb on the table to raid the plates! The casual way it entered, the noticable LACK of prompt eviction by the staff... all point to this cat being a regular visitor in a public eatery... a CLEAR violation of basic common sense and OSH/MAF health regulations.
Once we saw this, we couldn't stay any longer. We bundled up the young fella, stacked the remaining food and plates and promptly departed. Even discounting the chips and fish, the hotdogs were under-battered and over-cooked, the sausage tasted almost as though it was 'off' before it was cooked, and the general state of the place was far below any reasonable standard of hygiene. The table we sat at obviously hadn't been cleaned properly in quite a while, from the amount of dry-encrusted food residue glued to the table, and the crap on the floor.) Add to this the fact that the place reeked of smoke from the crowds upstairs, and it all adds up to a resounding "NO THANKS, NEVER AGAIN."
