"An apple a day keeps the doctor away."
Your mother used to tell you this for good reason, as apples really are a great way to help us eat healthy!
Product reviews...
My partner loves Tasti Muffin Bakes especially the chocolate fudge variety. When I saw the Apple and Bran flavour show up at the supermarket one day I decided to get them for a change, after all he loves apples so I decided that surely these would be a hit. When he found these in the pantry that night his first comment was "oh, these apple ones look really nice, do they have cinnamon in them?", he also loves cinnamon with apple.
Ripping open one of the 6 bars that come in the box, you could immediately smell the spicy apple scent of the muffin which I thought was a good sign, for it to be smelling like that of what it says it is. After hearing about how nice these tasted I decided to give one a go myself (bearing in mind that I don't like the chocolate fudge flavour). I was very surprised at how nice this tasted, the apple filling was moist and had a bit of a juicy taste to it, but in saying that it wasn't juicy in a way that it made the bar soggy, the outside of the muffin was soft and smooth just like how a muffin should be and there was just the right amount of raisins scattered amongst it, with the perfect balance of yummy spices. I was really shocked with just how much I liked them, and these soon become my partners favourite also!
The price of these has certainly gone up and if i'm lucky I can find them for 2 for $5 otherwise they tend to be generally priced around the $4 mark on there own. With 6 in a box we try to make these last the whole working week which is not to bad. Definitely a great alternative to eating an actual muffin or a nice change to your standard muesli bar.
Tasti Muffin Bakes are one of my all time favourite snack bars. I've tried just about every flavour except for the chocolate one. I have a great weakness for muffins, and especially enjoy something with a bit of fruit in it. These bars were a revolution for me.
Individually wrapped, and a great size for a morning tea break. I generally keep a box of these in my office drawer for when I get peckish. When you open it up, the muffiny smell combined with a fresh fruity smell hit you. Its subtle, but enough to get your mouth watering. The bar itself is light and spongy, but not so spongy that it would crumble in your fingers.
You take a bite, and that light spongy with slight chewiness, plays on your tongue, along with the fruit middle. I'm not a huge fan of apple. I cant eat a raw apple at all, but I loved the taste of the apple in these. The texture of the fruit middle was just right. Fresh taste, not chewy or hard as some fruit fillings can be. But not tasting overly sugary either.
The cost per box is brilliant too. it doesn't leave you feeling too guilty if you decide to have another muffin bar later. 6 is a good number per box as well. 5 working days a week, 6 bars...means you get an extra one day, when you really need it. Or just when you feel like going for ice cream or a big piece of mud cake thanks to things going pear-shaped, reach for a muffin bar instead. Cheaper and less sinful. But take it into the break room at least! YUM!
I am not the greatest fan of 'Sparrow Food Bars' so when a mate showed me these muffin bars (though he was munching a different flavour - the Carrot Spice variety) I figured these might be a nice thing to try. And I love muffins... so off to the local supermarket I went and bought a box of each variety that showed any appeal.
This variety was the first one I bit into and I was very pleasantly surprised by just how nice and tasty (no pun) they were! Yummo Plus!
The apple filling was moist without being juicy, the muffin surround was very tasty and had a good texture, good colour and had just the right spices to make it highly addictive to my tastebuds! (I munched through the whole box in a single day - snack time = a muffin bar!)
8 bars made it good value, and the visual appeal of both the packaging and the contents were quite impressive, though when stacked on a crowded shelf with a lot of other green boxes, these were a little difficult to see. Everyone seems to be going heavy on green or white packaging in this range it seems.
Overall I would have to rate these some of the yummiest snack bars I have had the pleasure of trying in quite some time. Well done!
