I have been giving this book a real going over, in the interests of being thorough. I was stunned by how much great stuff there was in here. By following the guidelines I have been able to reduce my household waste by a huge degree. I used to put out a stuffed-full rubbish bag every week, but now I find that I am putting one out every 6-8 weeks, and only putting out recyclables on a weekly basis.
Old household utensils that can't be recycled now have a whole new lease of life performing tasks I never would have thought of.
A couple of the biggest highlights for me were the tips and tricks on how to grow my own vegetables, and the natural health remedies section. As a sufferer of regular heartburn, I was surprised to find that gulping disgusting tasting brews bought at great expense was pointless, and I could give myself a far better protection by eating ginger, ground up slippery elm and banana, or a glass of water with a little apple cider vinegar stirred in with each meal.
All in all this book is a resource every household should have. It is so comprehensive it even offers excellent advise and links to resources for new home builders to help design and build eco-friendly, resource-efficient homes from the planning stage onwards, including positioning of the house for maximum benefits from natural resources such as wind and lighting. A $60 investment that will save you thousands of dollars in only a few years, and potentially a lot more too.
