My 2 year old has been a fan of drawing and crafts since she was one year old. In my choice felt pen markers are always the winner for us over crayons and colouring pencils due to the vibrant, bright colours they produce. However with felt pens comes the problem of lost lids, which quickly results in inkless felt pens.

When I saw twistables in the arts and crafts isle at the warehouse I thought we may be onto something, a felt pen which has no lids to be lost PERFECT, At first I wasn't quite sure how the non cap thing would work as surely the pens would dry out in no time, but soon saw that the lids worked with a little sliding cover which works in motion with the twisting mechanism of the marker body to get the tip of the pen out, twisting one way. Quickly I discovered that twisting one way retracted the tip, and the cover slides back over which safely seals the marker and stops the tips from drying out. Not only was this perfect as it stopped loose lids from falling around and getting lost, with markers that dry out within a few days, to me it also provided a sense of comfort in me knowing that these did not pose a choking hazard.

The co lours were beautiful and vibrant, consisting of the primary co lours, red, blue and yellow and also black, purple and green. They work great on white paper and also on co loured paper. During visits to my local retailers I have seen twistables also available in colouring pencils and crayons.

I would definitely recommend these, as mess free, and safety free art materials, crayola continuing to be my most trusted brand.

Another great winner in the Twistables range, these have to be one of the best innovations in markers since the development of non-toxic water-based inks. At first glance, I thought that these caps simply had a hole in them that allowed the marker nib to project through and out into the in-use position when the body and cap are twisted in opposite directions.

This would, of course, mean that the nibs would start to dry out the moment you opened the packet... not smart... but upon closer examination I spotted the little sliding cover inside the lid, which is keyed to the twisting mechanism, so that as you twist the body to project the marker nib out, it slides the cover along until a hole appears just at the right time to let the nib through.

When you twist it the other way, to retract the nib, it slides the cover back into place, giving you a sealed marker again, with no loose parts or lost lids! Excellent for little ones who enjoy the occasional portion of marker-pen-lid sushi-style.

Overall, when it comes to a no-nonsense, no-mess, no-parts-lost marker pen, these are the only ones you should consider. With six vibrant colours in the pack, for under $10, you simply can't afford to ignore these. Available at selected quality stationary retailers, you'll find these on the Crayola display stand along with the rest of the new range of goodies. While you're there, have a good look, there is plenty to impress parents and kids alike.
