I have been developing web pages for some time now. I have to say that I have been struggling with building dynamic pages until I stated playing with ColdFusion. I installed the software and to my surprise I did it right the first time, unlike Apache which took me at least an hour and a half to sort out. The good thing about it is that the programme comes with tutorials and a manual to guide you through every step of the way. For someone who does not like to code the whole website, this is a good way to be able to display dynamic data on a website. Now this does not mean that you do not have to code at all, it is just making it a little bit easier.
The language itself is easy to understand, it works very much like PHP and it has almost as many functions, with one twist, it just seems a bit more logical.
The thing that I found the best about this server platform is the amount of databases that it can deal with, from SQL to MSAccess. No more coding the database by hand, build it in access, set up the relationships and upload it to the server. Connect the database to the website via Dreamweaver and pronto, you are building a dynamic website.
The software is great books that come in the pack is fantastic. The drawback is that there does not seem to be as much support and example code available for the language as there is with php and the like. This can be a bit frustrating when you working with complex data. The plus side is for the simple things that you want to do it is going to take you half the time to do it in ColdFusion than it is trying to code the whole thing from scratch.
This now brings us to the hosting side of things. To be frank, it took me some time to find a hosting company that still supported ColdFusion. It is a little bit more expensive but you can do really cool things with it, like sms from the website to a phone and back to the database.
I would highly recommend this product, it is something that can revolutionise the way that you build a website. I do not think that this review does the programme as much justice as it should, I can go on and on about all the neat features that ColdFusion has to offer, but in the end you should download it from their website and give it a go, you will be as surprised as I am.
This is one of the easiest languages that I have learned and it is the most fun, as you see results fast.
