Toot the Tow Truck product reviews

Proud to promote NZ productsThere's another emergency vehicle in singer-songwriter Dean O'Brien's garage - this time it's a tow truck called Toot! Those goats of Granny's have been joy-riding on Farmer Tom's tractor and have got themselves in a bit of a pickle, with the tractor stuck in a pond and themselves up a tree! Nee Naw can rescue the goats himself. but he needs to call his friend Toot to come and pull out the tractor.

Children can download or stream the Toot the Tow Truck song and sing along as they read the book and look at Bruce Potter's clever pictures.

Mr Two was very happy to find he had a new Nee Naw book to enjoy. He already has another in the series so knew some of the characters of course, and once the story had been read with him at least a dozen times, he was able to look at the pictures on his own while listening to the song online. His attention span is such that he can amuse himself once he is familiar with a story - a welcome respite for parents who have read a book aloud so often that they know it by heart! The rhymes and catchy tunes make this independent "reading" a breeze for a preschooler.

Although Mr Two considered this very much "his" book, Miss Five enjoyed it too. Being older, she saw the humour in the billy goats dangling in the tree with their bare bums in the air and Granny's nighty tangled around their forelegs. This was her favourite picture; every time she looked at it, she started giggling. She listened to the streaming song with Mr Two; since she is learning to read, she is able to match the printed words to the song lyrics. This is a wonderful way for children to improve their reading skills without realising they are doing so!

Nee Naw has a great circle of friends and never hesitates to ask one of them to assist when there is an issue he cannot sort on his own. This is a good learning point for children as they explore ideas like teamwork and helping one another. Toot the Tow Truck does not hesitate to come to Nee Naw's aid while Farmer Tom and Granny encourage him from the sidelines. Meanwhile the fire crew rescue Pinky and Plonky from a nearby tree. The goats make a somewhat undignified descent, but land on the ground safely.

The graphics are bright and cheerful, making them attractive to small children. Granny's clothes are amazing; the items on the clothesline hijacked by the runaway tractor include bright yellow frilly bloomers, pink long johns, and yellow socks with coloured patches where they have been darned. After the rescue, a white sweatshirt with a large hole in it is held up by one of the fire crew. I am not sure Granny would want those clothes back given their condition after their escapade. There again, I don't think many Grannies these days would wear clothes like this. Maybe Pinky and Plonky have done her a favour, and as reparation they could offer to take her shopping for new clothes!

Product reviews for listing 805: Eats, Shoots and Leaves -  Written by Lynne Truss

Product image for Eats, Shoots and LeavesA panda walked into a cafe. He orders a sandwich, eats it, then draws a gun and fires two shots in the air.

"Why?" asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes towards the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder.

"I am a panda," he says, at the door. "Look it ... more...
