I was out on the town with a friend, trying to find some life in the city. No-one seemed to be at the usual haunts, and it was approaching 11pm - a very unusual, and a little scary, situation really.

We walked past Jones Bar on Rangitikei Street. We peeked in as we walked past, and there was a sight such as we hadn't seen all night... a packed out pub! The security guard at the door kindly informed us there was a live band inside, and as he put it "they aren't half bad really. Some good music you can sing along to, if you are over 30 or just have good taste." That really caught my attention, so we went in.

What greeted us was an unusual sight indeed. I am not used to seeing a perfectly good pool table with the lid on, and some young guy with a microphone standing on it strutting like Mick Jagger, whilst singing 'April Sun in Cuba' at the top of his lungs. And doing it well!

So, we grabbed some drinks, found a place to park out butts, and enjoyed half an hour of some serious groovy tunes. Now, knowing that I sound like visiting day at the SPCA when I sing, I was surprised to find myself so enjoying the event, I was even yelling along to the songs. I refuse to dignify what I was doing by calling it singing. That requires skill and talent, two things I lack in the vocal department.

Overall, I was really impressed by these guys, and though the website lacks any specific details, I would say they are locals to the Manawatu region, which makes me proud that we have such talent in our midst.

Good on ya guys, you've given me a reason to venture out after sunset again... look forward to hearing you again. Any Friday night gigs, I'll be there! Saturday gigs don't fit my schedule, but when I can make it, I will. Watch for me, I'll introduce myself when next we meet.
