Product reviews...
When I was given this product to review, I didn't really have much idea how I would use it or if I'd be able to, given that I have trouble moving my legs. When I got it out of the box, I noticed the solid metal construction and that there was some assembly required. I had trouble with the brackets for the arm rests, the pre-drilled holes were fiddly and hard to negotiate. After that I got myself out of my wheelchair and down to the area of the floor I had designated as my 'gym' for the duration of my product trial.
I'm no adonis with the abs of a greek god, so I have a little more work than most to get to 'average' status. The information videotape that came in the box with the machine was mostly about the machine, what it could do for you if you used it for x-number of minutes a day and a couple of exercises to get you started. I felt not much time went into explaining the techniques and tips to get the best from MY machine, although I should have guessed it would be mostly down to trial and error. Now I had more knowledge, I felt I could give it a try.
I started out well and after only about 3-4 minutes noticed a good burn from my stomach muscles and a decent sweat building up. I continued doing this for about 10 minutes and had to stop when my muscles started twitching and screaming 'STOP!' Although it was not designed exclusively for this purpose, the back is good for using as a rest area between sets of exercises. It is soft, comfy and just wide enough that you don't have to worry about rolling off it.
I have used this machine about 3 or 4 times a week for the last 3 weeks or so and have noticed little change, but this may be more to do with my habit of delaying things that seem too hard than the Ab-Away Pro being a bad product. I think also that some form of physical fitness is beneficial when starting out. This machine can be used by beginners not used to exercise, or people who will add it to their regular regimen. For me the price is a little steep, but if you happen to be endowed with a nifty credit card, then it would be a lot easier.
