Unlock! Timeless Adventures product reviews

Unlock! is a co-operative card game inspired by escape rooms that uses a simple system which allows you to search scenes, combine objects, and solve riddles. Play Unlock! to embark on great adventures, while seated at a table using only cards and a companion app that can provide clues, check codes, monitor time remaining, etc.

The three scenarios are:

The Noside Show
Arsène Lupin and the Great White Diamond
Lost in the ChronoWarp

Note: Unlock! requires a free application to be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play. Once downloaded, an internet connection is not required during game play.

Note: this escape room adventure can be re-played

I've been bitten by the Unlock! bug and am slowly collecting all the games that are available in the series, the main selling point being that whilst it is aimed at the ten and older ages, my special needs child can still easily join in as one aspect to the game is looking for hidden numbers or letters that are on cards, so that we can gain another clue, and this brings her a lot of joy in being able to help us. It's also very re-playable as you don't remember every step you made, plus, you can leave it sitting on the shelf for a while before you come back to it.

Each games take approximately an hour, it all depends on how many times you have to hit the penalty button or get a code/machine wrong, but if you fly through the clues you can do it in much less (we finished one in 33 minutes). The Noside Show features a circus, the initial start to the game was a bit hard to work out but once in, we were off. This one comes with a program, which certain cards will slot into, they also have handy clues written underneath them, so it is well worth looking at every card carefully and reading everything, you never know where a clue might be. Though this one was slated as the easiest, I found it to be the second hardest.

Arsene Lupin sets you off on a mission through Paris, following clues to find a diamond before another group of people do (who try to set you off in the wrong direction). There was one moment near the end where we had a little trouble remembering where we went and in what order, but this was the easiest of the three and we finished in almost half the time, with no penalties. Lost in the ChronoWarp was the most interesting of the three, jumping through time. We did get confused at the wording on one part, but then figured out we needed to use the current year in the game, a nice touch. This one used the Butterfly Effect, which I liked, and then the need to fix the timeline.

This set was a definite hit and I actually really enjoyed the story lines for this one.

Product image for Shout It Out!Your category is... wait for it... 'Types of Soup'.

Now you have just 60 agonisingly short seconds to match the ten soups that are listed on the card, because only those that are listed on the card will score you points.

Shout out as many soups as you can, as loudly as you can, as quickly as you can... because the more you shout out, the better your chances of success.

Shout It Out is the frantic, fast ... more...
