Troll & Dragon product reviews

Brave the big Troll and the terrible Dragon to gather the most treasures to your king and win the game! But beware, the most you fill up your bag, the riskier it gets to wake up the monster and lose everything⦠Will you escape in time?

At your turn, roll the dice of the Diamond Grotto. For each face with a diamond, snatch one. Watch out: when a Troll face appears, the dice is blocked, and you canâ ™t roll it again. Each roll, you decide to re-roll to accumulate treasures or stop and add your loot to your bag. If all your dice are blocked, all the diamond you gathered will be stolen by the Troll! If you manage to make both the Door and Key faces appear, you enter the Treasure Cavern. When you do so, grab as many gold nuggets as possible before the other players awake the Dragon! If they do, they will share your own loot!

Game Contents:

60 Diamonds
50 Gold nuggets
5 adventure packs
1 Troll hand
8 Dice
1 rules
1 Monster den (the box itself)

Finding games that are easy enough for my youngest to learn and play without lots of help or prompting, but that is still lots of fun for my older two can be quite the challenge. I happened upon this at my local game store and it looked like it could fit the mark, so I grabbed us a copy to try out at home. The price may seem high for the size of the box, but I feel that in this case it worked out pretty worthwhile. Inside there are a few cards, you can pick a character (which doesn't affect game play) and these are double sided, one side featuring a character, the other a number chart to aid you with your scoring should counting in threes be a difficulty.

The box is nice and sturdy and also acts as the troll and dragon caves. The diamonds go in one dies, the gold in the other (the inside of the box is illustrated, so helps make it easy to place them in the right side). You get four dice to roll, these determine if you get diamonds, a key or door (both necessary to look for gold) or a troll. If you lock in all your dice and haven't managed to move to where the gold is, then the troll gets your loot (which may be won later), if you get a key and a door and move next door then you now role the gold dice. However, while you roll the gold dice, all the other players take turns rolling the dragon dice. If you leave, you get to keep your treasure, but if caught out by the dragon, the other players share your loot and what the troll has.

All three of my kids have declared that they found this a really fun game and my youngest had zero issues learning how to play it.
