Product reviews...
I am a massive chocoholic, any new chocolate products released and I will more than likely want to try them. When I saw that KIWIreviews had some of the new Barker's of Geraldine dessert sauces available to review, including the 'Choc lovers Chocolate Sauce', I knew I had to get my request in and cross my fingers to be chosen, thankfully I received a bottle of the chocolate sauce to try, and I wasted no time in opening the bottle.
I took a sniff of the sauce and was met by a delicious, sweet, chocolatey aroma, I replaced the lid and proceeded to give the bottle a shake before using it. I removed the lid again and noticed that the sauce had a smooth, glossy appearance. When I poured some of the shiny, brown liquid onto my ice cream, I was delighted to see that it was rather thick in consistency, I had high hopes for the taste of this product and hoped I wouldn't be disappointed.
I took my first spoonful of sauce so I could taste it by itself, wow I was relieved that the taste was not a disappointment. The sauce was sweet but not overpowering it was quite pleasant, the aftertaste left me craving more. When I tasted the Choc Lovers Chocolate Sauce it gave me a flashback of the taste of a certain fast food restaurant chains choc sundae. After tasting this sauce with vanilla ice cream, I am keen to experiment with the product in some baking. Another bonus to this sauce is that it is gluten free, which is perfect to have on hand when our friends come to visit.
If you love chocolate sauce on your dessert, I highly recommend buying buying this product as you will not be let down. My children have informed me that this is their favourite topping for their ice cream. Barker's being a NZ company makes for another fabulous reason to purchase this product, as I like supporting NZ made.
I am a self confessed chocolate lover so was extremely happy to receive Barkers Choclovers Chocolate Sauce. From my experience with Barkers products, I have come to appreciate their outstanding quality and this exquisite sauce is no exception!
The sauce comes in a glass bottle so you can see the rich chocolate colour. The first application, when the sauce was left at room temperature, had the sauce pouring out quite quickly. After using and putting it in the fridge, the sauce was slow to come out but there are instructions to leave the bottle in warm water for 2 minutes. I could never wait that long.....
The sauce itself is thick, smooth and velvety and basically tastes delicious. It's also extremely versatile and I used it on ice cream, over chocolate brownies and also in a chocolate mousse when the chocolate I used didn't give it adequate flavour. I also decided to make some cup cakes and add a dollop in the middle as a surprise. Although the sauce spread throughout the individual cupcake, the flavour was amazing and made for a tasty treat for the school lunchboxes!
The possibilities with this sauce are endless! I was surprised how far it actually goes and still have (surprisingly!) a considerable amount left. I would definitely recommend this sauce as it can transform a plain bowl of ice cream into something extraordinary. It is a delicious sauce that every household should have and I'll definitely ensure our supply never runs out!
I am not a chocolate sauce lover but thought to give this a go and see if it can covert me. First impression was cute bottle, love the imaginative way that the label gives serving suggestions. Another great thing is that the website was listed for recipes and inspirations. A good point is that it is made in New Zealand so supporting local is always a good point.
I had bought a vanilla cheesecake and wondered what it would taste like with some chocolate sauce. As I said I'm not a lover of chocolate sauce so I was a bit careful about how much I put on. I took a small bite and I loved it, not too strong tasting and not too runny so the sauce didn't run off the cake and onto the plate. I was going to try baking with this but unfortunately my son got rather sick so I was too busy looking after him to do much baking but I'm going to try and experiment with chocolate cake and ice cream with chocolate sauce over the summer.
My children all tried this sauce as well, all three liked it but one said he would prefer to have the sauce on its own instead of putting over a cake but I'm sure he would like this over some ice cream.
Even the name "Choc Lovers Chocolate Sauce" makes my mouth water, I have always loved chocolate but now I'm officially middle-aged I tend to eat a whole lot less Chocolate these days to save the old waist-line.
Barkers have created a new range of Dessert Sauces and my prediction this chocolate sauce will be the top seller in that range, the sauce comes in the same versatile bottle that their other sauces and dressings come in, with of course the same attractive label that makes it instantly recognisable. When I received the sauce I was pleasantly surprised at the depth of cocoa colouring, it looked rich and delicious, I popped the lid and smelt the sauce...wow! It was so decadent, I dipped my finger into taste, the sauce was thick and intensely unmistakably chocolate that my mind starting to race what I could use it for.
I decided the first use should be as an ice cream topping, so I added the sauce to vanilla ice cream that evening and I noted that only a couple of tablespoons were needed due to the sauce's intense flavour. The whole family loved it, with my children coming up with ideas for uses as they ate; topping on pancakes, iced hot chocolates, pavlova topping or as icing for cupcakes. I suggested it would be too runny for that to my daughter, but I thought later that you could add icing sugar to the sauce to achieve a thicker result. So this is my next idea and luckily I have still have over half remaining and that's even after three ice cream topping nights.
Again, Barkers have created a top quality product and I'm sure New Zealander's will continue to support such an iconic company now and into the future, as I do and will.
I was very pleased to give Barker's choc lovers chocolate sauce a try and it lives up to the expectation I had for it. I decided to make up some dessert bowls containing ice cream, biscuit and lollies with the barker's chocolate sauce spread on top for the kids and me. The kids all took to it being a hit right from the get-go and all four of them agreed (which is very rare) that it tasted exactly like the chocolate sauce in the McDonald's sundaes. All of my children finished it while asking for more which I had to refuse as I didn't want them to consume too much sugar so we had to settle on a deal of them being allowed more the following day.
So the next day as agreed my partner made up a batch of pancakes and spread the sauce over the top which melted it down to a runnier consistency. The chocolate sauce tasted very nice over the pancakes and has a natural chocolate flavor but still has that slight syrup taste to it which I quite like. The sauce is very thick in consistency as it is but after it is placed in the fridge it turns really thick almost like tar and there is a suggestion on the bottle to place it in warm water for two minutes to help bring it back to its normal state. It also suggests to shake the bottle before use but I don't really believe it is needed as it is all one combined sauce.
Barker's have a great range of products and this is an excellent addition to their collection and if you have a sweet tooth then this is a sauce you must give a go. It is very valuable at $4.99 for a 365g bottle and I can see myself purchasing this in the near future once this bottle runs dry. I look forward to using it in other applications such as baking and as a hot chocolate drink.
I don't eat much chocolate these days, there just aren't many that I really love anymore, but chocolate sauce can be a handy item to have around, if it tastes good that is. A big plus is that the sauce is vegetarian friendly, always good for that to be pointed out and means that you don't have to go scanning the ingredient list. I had been promising the children that we could have pancakes and one thing or another led to delays, so I decided to make it for dinner! I brought this sauce out and just warned the kids not to use too much to begin with, till they knew how strong or good it tasted.
My kids absolutely loved this on their pancakes and opted to use it instead of any other sauces we had on offer. My kids opted for using this on their ice-cream as well, it had been in the fridge but I didn't need to heat it up, it still flowed well, and has each time which has made life a little easier for the kids. My nine year old hates cheesecake unless it is chocolate but a friend brought over french vanilla cheesecake, so I suggested she pour this over it in case that would help but she declared it a no win and handed her cheesecake over to her eager sister. She was, however, more than happy to dip the lollies that came with dessert into the sauce left on her plate.
I have three kids who love this sauce, so the bottle is almost empty already, but it was a huge hit with my kids even though I didn't love it and I will buy them another bottle when this one runs out.
