Product reviews...
Soused Soapery makes some lovely products right here in New Zealand, that are different and amazing. I have been very fortunate to have enjoyed a few soaps and so on seeing this body scrub, I requested it quickly, as I know the quality of their products.
The caramel scent of it sounded, well delicious, so of course the first thing I did was remove the top and have a smell of it. Wowser - Soused Soapery have definitely captured the true caramel scent, almost to the point of making me drool! Whilst I am not a die-hard caramel fan, I do enjoy the scent of it, as well as the taste (not a factor in this case of course!!), and the scrub smells so good!
After popping the container into the shower earlier in the day, I got in in the evening and remembered I had it to use. I grabbed a shower "bubble" (pouffe?) as my daughter puts it and after taking a little out, used it to apply some of the scrub. I almost did not as it looks and smells good enough to devour! The instructions on the back do state you can apply it directly to wet skin - but I like the exfoliating feel of using the pouffe, as well as the fact my hands do not feel or greasy if I use one, so would likely continue to use that with it.
The ingredients are all listed on the back of the container which is great because you are able to ascertain very quickly if there are likely to be any allergies to any ingredient. There is nothing in the ingredients list that I do not understand - which is a huge thumbs up from me - and also meant that I was happy to a let me children use it also. My children commented on the "scratchiness" of it straight away, but I explained why, and that it was helping to remove skin and would make their skin shiny, and that encouraged them not to apply and wash it off straight away.
I personally like the roughness of the scrub - it made my skin feel so beautiful and smooth - and to smell like caramel as well!! It is easy to get out of the container, and with a nice wide bottom on it, I don not think you would waste any in the bottom, which can be very disappointing! I do like the sturdy jar and simple packaging of Soused Soapery, but, as the packaging is all the same - you do have to double check which you are using.
The question of whether it is aimed at males or females is not easy to answer - it honestly can be both. My husband and son both liked this along with me and my daughters, which makes it a very versatile gift to have on hand - if you can resist using it yourself!!
Thankyou Soused Soapery for making unique and almost delicious enough to eat products - they are amazing to use and wonderful to gift. Thanks!
I enjoy caramel in every way - the scent, the taste, and the versatility of it in cooking. However, I would not have thought of including it in a scrub - so thumbs up to Soused Soapery; this combination is a real winner. I was going away for a few days so, after trying it out on my daughter and Miss Six, I took it with me so some of my other friends could test it as well. I was glad to find that the packaging was secure; in addition to the screw-top lid, there is an inner clear plastic circle so that the contents cannot spill. During the travel (bus then plane then bus again, all on a very hot day) the contents went quite runny with some solid bits left intact. However, once I had unpacked and the surrounding temperature had stabilised, the scrub set again as though nothing had happened, and there was absolutely no discernible loss of quality. Now that is a plus!
Every single person who tried it (including me) loved it. The initial grittiness quickly melts away, leaving a shower-gel style gloss on the skin. After massaging it in, you rinse it off again. The slight oiliness quickly vanishes, leaving the skin smooth and beautifully scented. Even the two children (Miss Six and Miss Nine) liked the smell; Miss Six said it reminded her of lollies so now her feet smelled good enough to eat, while Miss Nine said she thought it was just like her favourite dairy dessert. Four adults (two male and two female) tried it as well; my daughter and I had already both had a go, so that was a total of eight people, all very positive about it.
I like the plain, sophisticated print on the jar lid. It reminds me of some of the horrendously expensive "cosmetics for the discerning male" which I used to buy occasionally as gifts when I lived in London. It is useful that it is not targeted towards men or women exclusively; the lid design and the caramel scent as well have universal appeal. Both of my male testers commented on this; they are father and son, and while the younger man (a twenty-something) will try anything, his father is conservative and might have been put off if the packaging or contents were too "feminine"! The price is reasonably high, but we found that a little goes a long way; after eight people tried it, I still have over half a jar left.
This is another product in this range that I can see being a useful gift. I am not the world's most enthusiastic shopper; I tend to go into a shop knowing what I want, buying it, and then getting out as fast as possible. For that reason, this is a product that will be on my shopping list this year! There are quite a few people among my family and friends who are sure to like it.
Body scrubs are not something that I've ever bought myself, I'm very minimalist when it comes to self care and I've never seen the point in spending lots of money on various beauty products. My first thought when seeing this was that the packaging is nice and plain, it keeps itself simple and whilst I like its simplistic design, I would have liked a little colour to this (even if just for the name of this item, so as to help it stand out a little from the rest. I also noted that mine had all clumped together, so it rattled around a bit in the container, not such a big deal, just not what I was expecting to see.
Opening it up I was immediately hit with the gorgeous smell of caramel, it smelled so good that my kids came over for a sniff and my youngest inquired if she could eat it or not (and was most disappointed when the answer was no). Now this says to wash yourself first, use this and then rinse it off and lightly dry, so I followed the instructions. I did find that my skin felt oily right after, but I resisted the temptation to scrub myself and found that once I was dry my skin felt nice and smooth. The following afternoon I found that I still had a slight scent of caramel to me which was a nice surprise and for me gave this a bonus point.
I've used this a couple more times and find that I haven't yet gotten used to how it makes my skin feel right after the shower, so that is a little off putting. A big minus for this, for me, would be the salt in this, I have dermatitis and for me to use this scrub properly means that my hands end up stinging and very sore by the time I'm done. So, unfortunately, whilst this smells AMAZING!!! it's too much pain for me, if it hadn't been for that I could have seen myself buying this again.
