The Librarians: Season 3 product reviews

The Librarians are back! In this season they must take on the dual roles of hunter and hunted, as they find themselves fighting a war on two fronts. The Egyptian God of Chaos, is released from a museum in Egypt and is bent on releasing pure evil into the world to create a chaotic apocalypse.

Naturally, the Librarians must stop him... and must do so while also avoiding the new black-ops government agency D.O.S.A. (the Department of Statistical Anomalies) who believe the Librarians are home-grown terrorists. As they fight mission by mission, to save the world, the Librarians move one step closer to losing The Library itself. It's a conflict that forces the Librarians to confront the cost of using magic, as well as their true feelings for each other, once and for all.

The Librarians third season follows along from the previous - the Librarians have been travelling the world finding various magical artefacts and storing them safely. This season gives us not just one big baddie for the season but two, Apep an Egyptian God and D.O.S.A. a government agency who want control of the librarians and the library itself. Both these two concerns to the librarians interweave through each story, they stay the main concerns but never take over the entire stories as we see each episode.

This season doesn't focus too much on character growth, all have reached a comfortability with each other and who they are. We do get a few moments where characters face personal issues but these are actually dealt with rather quickly. The final episode does leave you guessing quite a bit as to where loyalties lie etc, I obviously can't go into that due to spoilers, but it is handled well and the kids were sitting there yelling 'but! why? What!!!' so I know they were hooked and wanting to know how it would all end. No cliffhanger but still a few things that can follow through into season four.

The Self-fulfilling Prophecy was probably my favourite episode as it plays so much on what happens if you see your future, can you actually change it and how seeing your own future can cause you to fulfil it, even if the end result is not desired. My kids enjoyed the episode where Flynn ends up in the Bermuda Triangle which has been inspired by the works of Lewis Carroll and ends up being a fun wacky place for a moment. Each episode does well as a stand-alone whilst still having links to Apep and D.O.S.A to keep that constant.

While D.O.S.A ends up feeling a little short with its wrap up, I did have a small chuckle at it. Apep also gets wrapped up, so there is no continuing baddie into the next season but I like how that leaves it fresh going into it. We thoroughly enjoyed this season and can't wait to see where the next season takes us.

Type of Show: Documentary Film

Product image for Deep BlueBased on the BBC/Discovery Channel series "The Blue Planet", in the most literal sense, you'll find no film goes deeper than this mesmerising documentary.

During one sequence, the camera plummets as far as 5,000 metres below the ocean to find some of the most extraordinary alien-like creatures you'll ever see - some of which are newly discovered species. After seeing this, it comes as no surprise to learn that more is known ... more...
